So this is still unsolved? Damn I thought all the great minds here on the Samba would know this one

I think your solution is as good as any. Sounds reasonable to me.

I wonder if it's meant to be used in conjunction with something like this? Gotta keep track of those wild government workers :P

Look really closely at that speedo, it's got a trip button and the line at 50.
That line at 50 is something seen on older cars from Britain, some even had a red light that went on at 30 MPH, bigtime speed laws I guess.

Might be a local requirement for a speedo with a red zone above the national speed limit. Perhaps there's an M-code for such a thing?

I remember a country that had an absurd law that mandated speedometers that only read to 85mph and had a big mark at 55mph.

i wonder how many of these battery covers survived

haha Are they really that rare? I was going to toss mine this week! It just looked like a piece of junk in my parts box from when I first got my westy.

Cool part, where did you find it?? Got it from a friend who took it of his NOS industrial 1800 engine...

Thought it would make a nice solution to connect additional external oil cooling

I have three that came with our westy. Two are wrapped together and one by itself. I was wondering if they were original :P. Peace!

Anyone ever seen a bulb/fuse holder like this? It holds fuses, small, medium, large bulbs and one headlight bulb. Not Bay Window specific but still cool...

Here are a set of NOS VWoA bumper guards for 1968 through 1972. They came with the installation instructions and adhesive mounting decals. I scanned one of the decals. The decal is 11 inches long.

The instructions say to mount the over-riders on the outer carriage bolt of the front and rear bumper. This clears up the controversy of whether they should be on the inner or outer bolts on the front.

This set has what appears to be original rubber bumpers since they fit perfectly (unlike reproductions) but they are not marked VWoA on the base and the nuts on the studs are not the "speed nut" style I am use to seeing on originals. Does anyone have an idea about this?

Here is a patent for the later style guards from the same manufacturer:

http://www.google.com/patents/about?id=v3cuAAAAEBAJ&dq=3677594

When I saw the ad come up I called the guy. He said; "I just pressed submit, how did you do that?" Sometimes you get lucky.

mattcuddy Fri Oct 23, 2009 11:22 am

Not "rare" in general, but NOS ones!?! Wow, nice purchase. They sure look purdy.

Anchovy wrote: They came with the installation instructions

So the early bay overriders aren't location specific (FR, FL, RR, RL) like the late bay ones. Clears up another area of occasional confusion. Good work.

Correct, there is no mention of them being location specific. The ads you see for "front" or "rear" guards are a mistake for this type of over-rider, at least.

babysnakes Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:48 pm

Wow! The "N" in NOS can't be argued here. Those are sweet. :D
