| After a front end collision, I purchased a replacement bumper for my '71' with both short overiders on it. I'd never seen them before. The guy who sold me the bumper had no idea as to where they came from or if they were even originally VW or aftermarket. Anyone out there know about these overides, I'd sure appreciate any info, thanks. |

I think the one Chabanais has is a 914 speedo
I sent a KPH trip speedo to NHSpeedometer and they printed the MPH markings on it and converted the odometer to miles and set it to the actual miles for my bus. I don't remember the exact cost but it was more than $100 and less than $200. I had asked them to reprint the entire face using the standard MPH speedo face as a template. I sent down a spare US spec MPH speedo face, but for some reason they really didn't want to do it. Maybe they were worried about not being able to match it exact enough, anyway, I'm happy with the results.

| I can't remember where I bought the trip speedo in my Bus... maybe The Samba. The other one I bought at a now-closed VW shop in San Jose. I happened to be in there and looked at their display case and BOOM $125 later I was an owner. |

8) 8)
i have a late bay but can someone with a early bay tell me if
there are factory bolt holes for this on your bus
they would be on the driver side,on the sides of frame, behind the body
between the taillights & engine hatch
(there is a pic of the tow hook installed back on page 1 or 2) |

Yes there are, both sides, they are on the outside of the frame rail below the battery trays. In fact even late busses have the holes for the ambulance hook, but only the early ones have captive nuts installed.
Nice find! |

Nice find! Sure that's not for a splitty though? I thought bay hooks stepped up to clear the bumper.
Are those the same holes for the factory hitch mounts? I don't have an early bay here to check, bit that is what is sounds like to me. Maybe they use the same holes? |

OK here's a pic of the factory threaded holes to mount the hitch on an early bay. This is under the battery tray.

this came off a 70 westfalia that also had ambulance fans
& many other bells & wistles
hopefully ill have a chance to revisit that bus before they get rid of it
& get the m-plate from it, to see if anything was factory |
