Thought I'd share some of the rare stuff on my 68 deluxe with everyone. Enjoy!
Original Seatbar
Original Side Jailbars
Here's the rear Jailbars
Front Deluxe Bumper Guards
Rear Deluxe Bumper Guards. Unfortunately I put the dent in that bumper too!
The rear tow hook. In case you get stuck in the mud, I guess? There's one underneath behind the front bumper on the front too. I have the dash clock in the instrument cluster also. Plus the cool brown floor mats and spare tire cover. To top it off, its a 1968, with all its single year parts! |

Tons of stuff. Us old farts who ride old BMW motorcycles use the DIN plugs for just about everything.
DIN plugs can be obtained at any BMW motorcycle dealer or through http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com/index.cfm. |

Haha! Show off what you got, i guess!. Seriously, I've owned my bus since I was 16 (13 years now!) and I never realized it had all the cool rare stuff until I started putting it in shows about 5-6 years ago. I started meeting some real bay window gurus telling me how special all that stuff was. Usually they ask me how much would I be willing to sell it for. Not for sale though. Since everyone at shows seems to like it so much, thought I'd share it with the good bay window folks that don't make it out to the Southern California shows here on Samba. |

Killer Bus!! I went fishing here a few months ago, looking for info (as much as I coud find) on Deluxe Bays with the clipper package - Did you restore that or have you managed to keep it that clean and OG for the last 13 years? What do you know about it's history? Does it have a sunroof and factory belly pans? Tell all! |

Alright, we all know every bus owner LOVES to talk about their ride, so here goes:
Never been restored, however, since I've owned (I'm the 3rd owner) it, I've replaced things that have needed replacement. I know its been painted once (original Savannah Beige/Cloud White) but not sure when. When I got it, EVERYTHING was oxidized and had been neglected for a couple of years, so it took a lot of polishing, buffing, etc. to get it to shine again. Interior is original, except for the seats, which I had redone in the OG two tone pattern. All the rare stuff came with it from the factory. I have all the original sales paperwork documenting all the accessories. Apparently the Original owner ordered from a dealer in Germany and had it shipped over to the U.S. to get a cheaper price. It is a walk-thru, but has the full non-walk thru middle bench with the fold down seat on the passenger side. The original owners took great care of it and drove it almost daily for nearly 20 years. The second owners bought it as cheap transportation and let it sit outside, resulting in the oxidation. Since I've had it, I've had the engine rebuilt, new carb, new generator, new German exhaust. The sunroof is about the only option it doesn't have, floors are all original with little to no rust.
Unfortunately, the two tone interior with brown everywhere where others have black is virtually non-existent, so restoring is gonna be tough. I'm at the point where the next step is full resto, so trying to put money aside for that now and hope to do it in the next few years. In the meantime, I enjoy driving it on the weekends when the weather is nice (original window seals don't like the rain!) and putting it in the local shows. |

Nice bus- I had a 72 like that, just missing the rear bumper, had the clock and Trip Odometer from new. I knew nothing then either, when I had mine nobody cared enough about Bays to tell me about the accesories. Quote: but has the full non-walk thru middle bench with the fold down seat on the passenger side
This is fairly common on all our busses, pre 72 most have the 3 seat described above. Good luck with iunterior- I have an ex rolls royce trim guy to do mine when I raise the money! Have someone make up the panels for you, it'll be worth it. |

Thank you for your input, by all means please post photos of as many options as you can for the public record. |

Great looking example dhdh68dlux. A few Q's:
what's the m code for those tow hooks?
i've heard that the 68-71 bumper guards are different from the '72's...though they look similar. Do you know?
Have you ever found a source for the rubber inserts of the bumper guards?
Lastly, what characteristics defined the "Clipper" and what years? |

Not sure about the m code for those, as I've never really researched it. As for the bumper guards, not sure, but I'd imagine that the '72 ones are the same, since the bumpers on the '72 are the same. I've only ever seen one other bus since I've owned mine that had those bumper guards at all. There is a place in the UK that makes repros of the bumper guards w/ rubber inserts, but you can't just buy the rubber insert. They are not cheap either. I think the "Clipper" was just the fancy term for Deluxe. I have some old 1968 sales brochures that refer to the deluxe models as "Clipper". I imagine they used it for a few more years, at least til '71. |

| I will put pics of the 71-72 year only bumper guards up asap, they are totally different from the early ones. You can get the early rubber inserts from Custom and Commercial in the UK and they may be available thru Bus Depot or sim. over there. 71-72 rubbers currently unavailable. I am still looking for an affordable set of the later bumper guards. A friend of mine has some but wants £200 for the set! |

Would love to see some addtional pics of both the front and back tow hooks...really unique feature of your bus.

Is the brochure which you have refering to the Clipper archived here on thesamba? If not, would like to see you scan and submit the brochure to the archive.

"71-72 year only bumper guards .. are totally different from the early ones"
What characteristic of the '71 and '72 bumpers are so unique as to be compatible with the later bumper guards only? Would it possible (though not correct) to use the earlier '68-'70 bumper guards on a '71 or '72 bumper? |

| Bumpers are exatly the same, the bifferent shape is solely cosmetic. Feel free to fit the early ones, they are now available repro and look great, I only have these as I am a sick freak who enjoys spending fruitless hours trawling e-bay Germany and chasing shadows to find the year only ones! |
