Some guy pulls up next to me in a ford Probe. Now I have a feeling he is going to race the light , sure enough at the green he dumps it and his tires are squealing. Loving a chance to really romp on it. I go ahead and take off (Not dumping the clutch this time) last time it cost me almost another 1000$ to fix the trans.
Anyway. he is about 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths ahead of me before I shift into 2nd gear. Here Is where the fun hit. at 10lbs of boost
I was about 4 car lengths in front of him in about 2 seconds. I could not even turn my head fast enough to show him my SH%$ eating grin :D I hit 3rd and barked the tires, (that was new to me on black top) well by that time I was already going to fast for him to even think of trying.
I learned you don't have to rip into it in first because 2nd will rip the paint off ya anyway. well it has been about 12 hours since this happend and I still have that grin on. :D |

Yea, I got in trouble yesterday. Damn old lady(55) said I was burning out and driving fast. Yea right, in a VW? Officer these things only have like 50 hp.
A warning was all I got. Hard to deny you did it when you have the only red buggy in the county!!HEHEHE I have slowed down though because I don't want to break anything. Put 90 miles on it yesterday!!! HE HAW!!!!!    |

YA , every time I go out and drive hard it seams like something goes wrong or I find a new sound  WHAT WAS THAT??? I hit a wet spot on the road from a stop. Gunned it and all of a sudden (after the front end felt like it lifted) I heard a pop and my engine was running not so good. I was a few blocks from home so I drove it home thinking something wrong With the carbs or something. stopped an look to see the #1 plug wire blew off. whew!
next time same thing happened but no plug wire problem . ?? sucked something into the idle jet.. how did that get in there. I have good air cleaner and outer wares over that.
I then replaced the Air cleaner and intake tube to a 3'' and one of the big cone shaped K&N. went for a ride and heard new sound  what is it now!!! ohh new Air cleaner lets the blow by of the turbo out faster and louder.... BOV to go on it next week.
Did I say probe?? I meant porsche
Well next time I will look for a more worthy adversary to race. vet? naaa.
mostly rice burners around here . and if I beat them they will mark my buggy for theft. If it isn't already. |

The moments when I have got the drop on someone at a light who chooses a open lane next to one of my air-cooled VW's have been some of the best gearhead times of my life.
The best part is correcting the presumption in another driver that because you are in a beetle or bus that you will be slow. I had a '68 poptop camper that had a built T-1 motor for just keeping me at 65-70 on the freeway. Stiff clutch, HP and bus transaxle gearing made it launch with authority from a stoplight. Conventional vehicles that made the mistake of trying to beat me in a two lanes to one merge by passing on the right were often shown my big, white, bus's ass.
I truly pitied kids who spent all their money on ground effects for some little Honda, and no money on any engine work. They invariably were shown the back of my bus or beetle when they had a carload of their buddies as ballast and, unfortunately for the driver, witnesses. THE SHAME...
My buggy will have the same motor I ran in the poptop, reconfigured for a lighter car. A little moderation and maturity ought to keep me out of trouble.... |

My most enjoyable buggy/Mustang race was when I blew away the neighbors supercharged, Roush Mustang during the "Test and Tune" night at the local dragstrip with my naturally aspirated ACVW powered Manx.

| After reducing my "wheel" gas pedal to 1 1/2" and moving the throttle cable hole higher on the lever I now have "full throttle". Watch out street cars, the red baron is on the loose....til I break my tranny of course. HEHEHE |

| After the latest adjustment I can say I think it goes as fast as I want it to. I know there are much faster buggys out there but they are only boosted or drag racers. you know it is getting power when the front end starts to lift in 2 gear. with a full tank of fuel in the front tank. too bad i am only getting 11 or 12 mpg. |
