WHAT YEAR IS THAT!!???? lol a split with a bay nose...nice

edit: and a bay butt...haha what is that thing???

Looks like a brasila offered in South Africa in 76'. Running gear of split similar to the fleet lines offered the year before yet with the updated looks with a bay nose and doors.

this is a brasilia.

its not a bay rear end. its still split with late bay tails molded into the corners factory. it actually has split corners and a small split hatch.

its a brazilian model kombi. its something VW of Brazil made outta old German dyes. the running gear on my bus wasnt similar to a fleetline. it was normal bay IRS. it just happens to have split trans cradle.

It is indeed a fantastic and very easy to get to spot!

If you hit up GoogleMaps, look up Stokesville, VA and Todd Lake, which is just west of Stokesville. This spot is on FR 95 inbetween the two. It's maybe 3/4 of a mile away from Todd Lake. And if you camp there, you can run up to Todd lake and go swimming for about $5/car load!

I am on my third Bay since owning my 1963 Splitty. I have seldom hesitated to take my bus off the beaten path, providing the mechanics are sound and the goal reasonably attainable.

This photo was taken somewhere in the Panamint Valley of California, just west of Death Valley. Shortly before stopping for the night I had spotted what appeared to be a corner reflector (RADAR). Closer inspection revealed it to be just that. Hmm... not to worry.

That night I was rudely awakened by several low level F4 passes. I know an F4 when I hear one, having worked their ECM gear for a year at Udorn Thani Royal Thai AFB in Thailand. A few more passes and it was feeling like I was back on the flight line during the Christmas bombing campaign.

The light of day (yawn) day revealed a track of reflectors apparently running the length of the valley. Like breadcrumbs for the pilots out of Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake.

There is something extraordinarily invigorating about early morning in the desert. I love the smell of the desert in the morning.

Heading up to Lake Calligan, Mt Si in the background to the south.

Boomerang peak to the left, the valley saddle is on the hiking goals for this summer, up and over to Lake Phillipa.

Bessemer Peak, and Lake Calligan below. Hiked up to about 3K then the postholing got past the knees consistently.

A nice view

Post trip: Heading out and make a u-turn while exploring a side road only to get really stuck in some clay just off the hard pack road. It just went too far and got sucked in. Had to dig out a trench, and then use first gear and keying the starter while pushing to inch it forward into the gravel filled dugout pocket. Then finally gassing the ever loving f#k out of it to get up and out. The bus was the only vehicle up there except for a sea plane doing touch and goes off the lake. Good times!
