Quick question, as you can see in the front of the 60 dual chester, it has bullet turn signals:
Now for the 59, though no housing is present, are these not as well bullet turn signals? I know when first posted it was referenced that it had fried egg turns, any clarification?
Waiting on dry days to begin the rescue! |

Those aren't fried egg openings. someone has cut the bullet mounts off. It looks like you can see a very small part of the bullet mount still welded to the nose skin. |

What can I say it started with a simple want ad. For months/years the normal already picked gems would be offered, the ones that you normally see. All good and all! but that's not why I have my ad out! Plus there to expensive.
Then I received this reply.
"I have a van , it needs lots of work" and the # to call.
I call a day later and we talk. He asks what I do with vws and why I have my ad out. I explain that I had just got a 58 split road worthy after 7 years and that I'm ready for another project.(total different pick, total different build) he goes on to explain that he has his grandfather's old van, and it will take more then a couple gs to sell it.
Couple day go by and I text him:
"I would like to make an offer if it helps. I don't want to start to low but i have to think about transporting the van to calgary. And of course the work ahead to get it back on the road.
With the van being so complete and me being a fan of the paint work Im thinking somewhere around _____ I could come up a bit if there are parts that are there that I can't see in the pictures. With that said if you had some old vintage pictures with the van in them something i could copy, or original. I think that would be worth something also.
If I pay someone to transport it it's around _to _ hundred.
Most likely I would like to come meet with you and pick it up in person.
Cheers!
He text back.
I need some time.....
Couple days later I text him back:
Hey ____
I won't keep bothering you I promise :)
But I just wanted to say a few things.
Like I mentioned about the old pics. If you have any vintage pics with the store and van, man that would be cool! I've been searching for vans for a long time and have come across a few but nothing quite as cool as your family's!
This van has a history, original owners, original vintage logos, hopefully old pics...these are all things I've been looking for in a van. Just really really cool to me.
It's really complete and maybe you have the rear bumper and maybe it has the original engine. Also that would be super cool! But not the end of the world if you dont.
I'm willing to offer _____. It's a bit over my so called budget but I have the blessing from my wife:)
I'm willing to come meet with you and talk personally if that helps?
Like I said I won't keep bothering you but I want you to know I'm serious and the van would go to a good home.
Vwchance,
He text back that he needs to talk to his brothers and sister before he does anything. His bro in Florida needs a couple days...
Total heart break!!!! :(.... days go by..... not doing good at this point!!!, you could imagine the thoughts that go through the mind?!?! Especially when you post something about the bus locally in the cvva calgary fb page...someone pm's you and says I almost bought that bus 9 years ago but I lost there contact! (Same person that posted the MJ ball bus pics on Samba back in 2008) Holy shit!!! I just lost the van are my thoughts........ . ......... . ..........Sunday morning at 7:09 he text me:
Po.
"Well I have wrote this text four times since Wednesday and was not able to push the send button , if you still want the van it's yours"
So that's when I rally the troops and borrow a trailer. The next friday we leave at 10:30 pm. Over night 8/9 hour drive later, we meet over a great breakfast! Another hour later, with the now called Bus, we were on our way back home.
History so far
Grandfather's van that he purchased 4 years after sold new, so not og owners.
Bought for the store MJ ball, groceries, meats and software. Regina sask
I belive the store was opened in the late 50s and closed late 70's. After that the Grandfather usedit on there farm as a service truck. Parked late 80s till 10 year ago then it was moved to Silton Saskatchewan. Sask beach.
The grandson tried to get it back on the road to give his grandfather another ride but that was 9 years ago. Today it sits In my shop. And I just stare at it with love!
The grandfather is still around and I've been told he would call me. Think I might just inquire again.
Don't stop the hunt.... you just nevery know  |

That's the risk you take for a bus like that. |

Umm, I DID. But see, I still don't have that bus. Always collect payment up front. |
