^^Agreed, cool find. Looks to be in fairly good condition. More pics please! Note the middle seat in the background of the cargo door shot. Ding Ding Ding, folks we have a winner. What a score!

sled Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:10 pm

I wish the seat was a score, unfortunately thats just a garbage baywindow middle seat.

Your "garbage" is another mans treasure! :x

OMG!

Is that a picture of Jesus, or is it the Virgin Mary in the front of that bus??? :o

It should be enshrined and $old on eGay! :P

Riff Raff Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:02 am

Even with the cut wheel wells and gutted interior, high hinge corner window buses do not avail themselves to the bus hunters everyday.
Very nice score!
What is with the four bolt wheels on the back and the narrow 5 on the front? Someone got partway through a disc conversion on the front and straight axle on the rear?
Post more pics when you get it cleaned out.

the rear is RGB's severely turned down with no backing plats so they slid late model bug drums on with slotted wheels.

up front it has a big adapter on the left side for small 5, and a stock wide 5 drum on the right side.

hopefully going to clean it out today...there are some unfortunate hacks :(

I asked him a few questions about the previous owners of the land (the true owners of the bus) He said they passed away about 1990, and they owned the land before the river was dammed up to make the lake, and their house was now under water, the dam was built in 1960 so the family had to move to a shack built buy where the bus was setting. I had heard rumers of this bus back when I was in High school, that the family's kids wanted a dune buggy back in the 60's or 70's and pulled the motor and tranny to make one. But the guy that told me about the bus back then wouldn't tell me where it was. He just said that it was in Hobbs estate management area. That is an environmental conservation area here. And that is where it was at. Anyway getting to the point. I'm trying to contact any family that might still be around. After really inspecting the bus The odometer shows 8525 miles, and with the lack of rock chips on the nose and no wear on the back of the headlight buckets, and the foot petal rubbers look brand new other than were an animal chewed on them, This bus may be original miles. It just sucks that it got treated this way!
everything but the deluxe trim was pilfered, weird

ok,so im seriously (im serious) not looking for old buses or vws at all,i feel like i have too many cars to finish before i expire already.......but,while at a buddies machine shop today, after coming back from the powdercoaters (after the machine shop visit) my buddy says "hey i thought about you the other day" "i was at this old curmudgeons unofficial junkyard, there was a split bus there".

i explain that i dont even want to see it unless it at least has press bumpers,he doesnt remember but its on the way back,"should we check it out"? i reply something about how the whole day is shot to shit already,"why not".
we get there and the bus i could see from far away,"ahh it does have a small back window" then walking towards it im saying to myself "please be a 59-63 bus" (remember i seriously am not trying to get more buses) well of course it has to be a wolfsburg kombi, very dry,1 respray just flakin off, dove blue looks great underneath even has perfect pinstriping.

well how much does the old curmudgeon need? $200................pics in a few weeks,no joke and i would actually laugh my ass off if anyone could ever track this one down

Its like with broads; its when you are not looking that you find them. Sounds cool, look forward to seeing the pictures.
