I have no idea, which is why I'm asking Steve what the story is.
here is the story: over the last summer i was catching some heat from some of the local haters so I chose to hunt instead of getting wrapped up in hater drama. As any seasoned bus hunter knows these things take time and rather than trying to talk the guy out of the stuff i chose to be a friend and offer to help him take care of them.first on the list was a 56-356 which is now in safe hands cruising the streets of Portland.next step was to convince the person that he was not taking care of them as he knows what they are but did not have the time to do the right thing.the 21 and 23 have been sitting in a field for the last 4 months exposed to the weather so i stopped by every few weeks and made sure they were well covered and protected.my goal is to a adopt the 23 it is not mine yet but it is in my possession since i have offered to care for the buses in a covered environment.I am currently doing the owner a favor and the buses as well. The person trust me enough to let me hold his buses so im sure he is not worried about what photo's I choose to share online.I am now one step closer to the bus than i was and I have convinsed the owner that repainting it would be the worst thing he could ever do to it.Thanks for all the positive feedback that most have offered and to you haters thanks for the motivation.Im hella stoked

Damn Steve...that is some responsibility! What a trusting person

The cut wheel wells need to be addressed, but the rest will buff out.

the cut wheelwells are fine. turn it into a shorty and roll it. it's halfway there.

I wonder how a Jersey Looker shorty would handle the Trailbash? I can see some serious airborne action going on there!

   perhaps i should have said "haters speak up in 3,2,1".
after working on the 57-23 today i realized i dont need to own this bus to enjoy it.its bad ass and it feels good to have it out of the field and in a dry place drying out.My plan is to treat it as thou it was mine despite who the "REAL" owner is and yes there are actually people out there that trust that im not out to rip them off, burn them, snake something from them or try to step on there toes to one up others.I am one step closer to the bus off my dreams and i have no problem storing a bus i hunted whether i own it or not.I doubt there is one person on the samba that wouldn't do the same thing.

I have to ask you Steve, why didn't you state from the start that the buses weren't yours? It seems that would have alleviated many of the issues and questions that surrounded this whole thing.

I will say this, both deluxes are very cool, and would look great in anyone's stable. Hopefully they will see the road again, one way or another.

what does it matter? this is the hunting thread and i hunted and rescued them.the 57 would have been repainted without my hard work and now it is safe. so whats the problem???

No problem really. It is just interesting to see you strive for attention with buses you don't own. I am glad the 23 is not going to be painted, it deserves more. Hopefully the owner, or a new owner, will do it justice.

the problem is that you post things up knowing that people will assume that you bought them, that you own them, that it was some amazing barn find score, shortly after the fluffing starts and you lean back and enjoy the nice hard on untill someone calls you out.

Dont get me wrong, good job helping to preserve some nice original type 2s, but you come off as someone who is looking for attention as well as looking for busses. And no , I'm not a hater. I could post vague pictures of the cars I am "holding" at any given time and look like a big baller but what purpose does that serve?

I never claimed to own the bus or buses i just said 1 trailer,500 miles,5 buses in 3 days. where did i claim ownership??? Im not looking for attention Im just offering something new to talk about and that something is some buses I hunted.

Mowser Tue Dec 02, 2008 11:04 pm

And you just keep on bringing them out of hiding reaper. I for one could care less who owns them. Like most that frequent this thread I enjoy seeing what is still out there to be found. At least you have the gumption to go looking and bring them out. I personally know where maybe 3 buses are hiding, one of which I posted pictures of some 10+ pages back. Some day I'll talk the owner out of it and until then I'll keep coming back here to see what else is being liberated from certain doom. Cheers,

Todd
