this is my first post, I've got a 73 pan with a Thunderbug on top. I'll see if I can figure out a pic. Anyway, I went with a alternator conversion and I originally had a vdo ampmeter, I switched it to a voltmeter, everything is hooked up including the red dashlight. That is where my question lies, the light is on all the time its running, is there a way to get the light to be off most the time , and turn on when there is a problem? diode, relay, I don't know
thanks in advance

Is your dummy light hooked up like this?

to clarify, the idiot light must have power going to it, from a source that is switched off when the car is not running, when the alternator is not charging, D+ becomes a ground, and the idiotlight comes on. If you have the idiot light grounded, then D+ is supplying power while the car is running, and the idiot light is always on.

Does this apply when using a generator as well?
