Hello! This is my first post on The Samba and would like some help identifying the dune buggy I purchased.
I purchased it about 6 months ago and have been working on replacing the engine and tranny. With a LOT of help from a friend, the project is nearly completed aside from a few small details. (Need to modify the engine cage, replace muffler, change some wiring, etc...) I was able to drive it for the first time over the last couple of weeks and am extremely pleased with the results. Anyway, pardon me for being so wordy but I am pretty excited about the new toy.
After reading through the posts here, I thought this would be my best bet on trying to find out who made the body on the dune bugy. I have never seen the tail configuration before...It uses Ford tail lights and almost look as though the body was molded for these lights. I am attemptinmg to upload some photos to look at...I would sure love your comments, both positive and negative!
Thanks in advance for your help!!

| Any front pics? Hard to tell much from just the back shots, except that those tailights are late 60's-early 70's Chevy/GMC truck units. |

| The only front shot I had was the one posted...I can take more front shots if that helps...How close-up do you need the front shots? |

Oops, my bad. They didn't all come up the first time. 8) Nice buggy regardless of maker.
I've seen that nose design before, but can't put a name to it. Anybody? |

The hood looks like an Allied ''Fun Buggy'', but the tail is all wrong, Take a look behind the tail lights also and see if someone modified the body to fit them, let me know.

| I looked underneath the body and behind the lights...If it was modified then the person knew what they were doing as there are no visible seams or add-ons...It appears as if it was part of the mold, but I am no fiberglass expert. I could not find any visible seams. |

| I think they are actually Maverick taillights. |

If you cant find an answer here, try DBA.com There is a section called x-files where you can post unknown buggies for id.
DBA stand for Dune Buggy Archives. They take great pains to identify and log all buggy manufacturers. You can also look in thier data base for buggies like yours. |

Those could be Pinto taillights as well.
I recently looked at an identical buggy (the first one I have seen of it's kind) yours is the second. The one I looked at is on a full length chassis, is yours?

Thanks for the compliment. I sure like it and am very happy with the purchase. It came with a hard top and paddle tires as well, but I am not sure that I will ever use either one of them.
I am located in Modesto, CA. The friend that helped me build the engine and tranny has talked me into driving it to the VW event in Kelley Park tomorrow. I sure hope the weather holds!! |

I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions...If you think of any other ones, please let me know!!!
Cheers! |
