I just bought "what's up doc?". It's an old 70's movie. They total out a deluxe microbus. When the bus falls over, you can see where the bus was cut and welded in half in the length. |

"The Spy Who Came in From the Cold" shot in Europe in the mid 60's...lots of type ii's and beetles
"Our Man in Havana" shot in Cuba in 58 or 59...opening sequence has a fairly long, close shot of an early split window bus |

What counts as 'old'? There was "Pleasantville" with Don Knotts driving a single cab. |

The Double Man with Yul Brynner
Great exterior and interior shots of at least 2 59-61 Deluxe buses, I have a press release 8x10 black and white photo that I tried to post....as usual no luck.
Also:
I'll take Sweden, or Let's take Sweden with Bob Hope
Great shot of a 21 window that was already painted a non stock color, with a popout removed or hinged differently so a little kid could use a squirt gun to hit Bob Hope with water....a classic, several VWs in this one.
Forest Gump with Tom Hanks
Brief sighting of a 61 flipseat westy, when Jenny steps into it....I own this bus, I look at it everyday.
Then one I have never been able to find...it was on the local PBS many years back with Spencer Tracy as a VP of Coke (I think) in Germany...a street shot shows a 51-52 three color deluxe. Nice....wish I could find that one again. |

Is that the one with Ryan Oneal and Barbara Streisand? I remember seeing a 23 getting smashed in a accident and I think that was the name of the movie if I recall correctly. I haven't seen it in a LONG time though. |

I remember a long time ago there was some black and white movie on tv,with a 50s kombi, with a logo?on the door, with no tops on the doors, the guy driving it had a uniform of some sort on,if my memory serves correctly it was a scene with the guy driving up and getting in/out of the bus.....Sorry i cant remember the movie or much else about it,but it is another one..Maybe someone has a memory like the guy I work with who can recall EVERYTHING!!(Its freaky!!) |

Yeah, that's it. The bus gets hit three times by three different cars. When the owner goes to open the drivers door, it comes off in his hand and the bus falls over. There is also a part in the movie when they steal a bug and end up driving it onto a car carrier full of bugs. That movie is still really funny today. |
