I don't believe the shoe scraper was originally sold by Robri as part of the set. They did sell at least two different styles that I know of. The "reproduced" set comes with five pieces that include the "wedge" shaped scraper...................all five pieces are reproductions. The "round" edged scraper is the one you want.

I had purchased a set of the CIP1's version and I returned them as the castings were not very good. They had bubbles and an inconsistant finish thet couldn't be polished out. I wanted a set like the original Robri's and had been given a set of the Flat 4's. I think the Flat 4's although made of aluminum were better looking and fit the fenders better than the CIP 1's.

Just my $0:02

I would still possibly buy an original set if I could find one in good condition.

I just finished installing a set of the Robri gards from CIP on my 56. The fronts went on fine.Just a little hand forming to fit the fender curve.

The rear fenders were a nightmare :x ! I had to do so much grinding and re shaping with a rubber mallet to get them to fit. In the end I ended up flattening out the curved lip that is suppose to go around the edge of the fender then filing that smooth. At lease it`s soft metal so it can be worked then re polished. In the end I think they turned out pretty good but gee!

Odds are, if the Robri's were original, your fenders were re-placed or if you fenders were OG the Robri's were fake. The OG Robri's fit very well to OG fenders.

didn't he say they were fake , he said they were from cip1 those are repops

 Sorry, my bad............

69judson Fri Feb 29, 2008 1:28 pm

These were the repros. However CIP reps them as being made from the original molds. I dont think so :?

My front fenders on the 56 are OG and those gards fit pretty good. The rear fenders are are OG VW but from a 59 but still the gards fit like crap. Part of the problem is with the quality control. One of the rear gards was a full 1/4 inch narrower than the other I guess due to grinding once it was taken from the mold. I sent that one back but the replacement was almost as bad :x
If my rear fenders were OG (Still looking for a pair :) No way I would have drilled them to put these gards on. One day when I get the correct fenders Ill try and find some real Robri gards.

My Robris fit my OG fenders very well and neat, but the aftermarket fenders I have on the left front and rear right they do not fit so good. They're heavy, can be polished, have clear names and the set I have came with the shoe scraper - I paid more than the previously mentioned price but not a lot more.

I matched them with some metric stainless fasteners - no unsightly rust drips marks with these.

oval and big window rear guards are different, from memory the front of the guard is about 1/4" less around the curve than a later 50's on guard.

Do these look like OG fronts? I'll let them go to the highest bidder.

They're already polished but been sitting 6 months.

are these good ones??

53 0val Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:52 am

They look like repros....................the finish reflects more luster than you can polish out an OG set.............(different mix or metals maybe.....the originals are more "grey" and less "silver"..... but yours look very nice) That particular style of shoe scraper came with the repro set.

hi:

I have a set I would like anyone who knows about these things to look at and tell me if they are repo or original.

They are a lot bigger than the Flat 4 repo's and they are wider then the CIP1 guards, they are a lot taller and wider than any robri's I have seen.

The finish is not perfect and they have pits and small scratches, I think they can be buffed out but before I do anything wit this set I would like to know what they are worth as is.

I also uploaded a youtube video on them:

Hi,

These things have been reproduced for years and it's almost impossible to find an original set.......in fact I would guess that 99 out of 100 sets are reproductions.

A couple ways to tell an original from a rerpoduction is the fit.....the rears will fit an ORIGINAL fender perfectly. The other way to identify an original is the clarity of the ROBRI logo.....the reproductions lettering is distorted and isn't very clear or crisp.

Here is a great example of an ORIGINAL: Look at how crisp the lettering is...

Now if you go and spend $900 on a set in the classifieds you deserve a backhand.
