I want to use a kafer cup type set up on my buggy to help it hook up. These seem pretty cheap

These seem better but I just cant see dropping that kind of coin on one.

what has been your experience with either one of these?? I really want my bugy to squat and go with out any wheel hop. |

Are you experiencing wheel hop now?
I didn't have a brace on my buggy with the 2180cc, and I never had wheel hop. It would just 'squat and go', Even at the track. Stock swingaxle, el-cheapo air shocks with about 75lb of air in them. Granted, I wasn't leaving at 5000rpms either. Maybe 4000 or so..
I'm not sure why it didn't hop, as I've experienced this in a bug, even with a mild engine. I think buggys are so light, either the front end is coming up, or it just hooks up and hauls ass. |

| No hop here either. Just spin, spin, spin. I think my negative camber is the culprit. |

when i built my buggy the first time with a stock 1600 stock ride height and 125/60R14 tires if i tached it up at all it would shake so bad it would jerk your teeth out.
It is not together yet so I dont know if it will still do it now or not. |

Jeremy, I have looked at your pics several times, if you leave the buggy at that heighth and use those rear tires I believe you will not have a problem.
UncleBob had a nice sized tire that was sitting flat on the ground, more rubber, better the hook.
Murz...I was just looking at an ass end shot of your buggy somewhere recently, the pic was after you lowered it, and I thought to myself, he should be able to spin those tires forever, it looked like in the pic, only the inside wall and about three treads were well on the ground. I personally wish you would raise it back up, I thought it looked tougher, more pro street, but I have never liked cars that had tires leaning in, it is probably just me. It's not my buggy, so who the hell am I to say anyway, I still love your buggy, don't get me wrong, just my opinion and we know what opinions are like :P :P :P |

I will probably raise the rear end of the car back up about 1 1/2" to try to remedy the camber issue. As it sits, the contol arm and top bump stop have about 1 1/4 inches between them with NO rubber bump stop. The Berrien body sits up soooo much higher than my old body. If I were to do it over again I would use taller tires both front and rear to achieve the lowered look without having to slam the suspension so much. I think UncleBOB had the right combo, 165's and 275/60's. Live and learn.
This is same exact swing axle chassis: one is with the old body and the other with the Berrien.

The Kafer Cup brace will do nothing but help your buggy. Anytime you can take the flex out of the chassis you will help the driveline and the buggy will leave the line harder.

Nobody is saying the kafer would not help, but he is not going to be running the kind of HP that you do Jerry!! and two things to consider.
1. He may need to spend the money somewhere else, he's young and I'm sure like most of us on a budget.
2. Jeremy will have so many tickets so fast, that he will have no choice but to drive slow on the streets or not drive. lol    |

I think Jeremy could make one. Preload it with some tie downs, bolt it up and save money. Jeremy??????
PS, don't doubt the power of his engine. I have seen the specs on his combo and I am sure it will haul ba honky.

| Murz, for me, and speaking for only me, that second pic is just fine, tires nice and level to the ground, look wide, look tough, looks cool, by the way we are close to the same age, so I'm not some super old man saying this. hehehehe :P :P |

| I have that kind on my buggy. i had really bad shaking when talking off . Due to the large tires and hop when i hit it. I love the unit. it is so worth it. No shake on take off and if yo do ever put any power in it. you will not bend the frame horns. Worth the 130$ I did have to trim a little of the ends to make it fit perfect . but my frame looked like it went through the baja 1000. |

yeah I had thought about making one. There is a plave here in town that I can get alu. rod made how ever I want it. I also bouht some himes joints to put on the end of the rods. I have a questions on that though.
does it push the shock towers out or pull them in?? I strut tower brace on a fornt wheel drive car will push the struts out to pre load them. |

| Jeremy, what you want to preload is the tranny horns. You want some tension in between the shock tower and the tranny horn. I am thinking, just weld a pipe to the two shock towers solid, then use adjustable links inbetween the shock tower and tranny horn and tighten in some preload. |
