can anyone id this buggy?
It doesn't run, needs brakes, needs wiring, need cosmetics and lots of time, money and elbow grease.

| your picture link doesn't work can upload here on the www.samba.com or at www.buggymuseum.com or photobucket versus geocities as they tend to shut the site down if it gets to much traffic. |

After you have your pic online go to the full size view and right click, select properties, highlight the location (http//blah.blah.1234.jpg), copy that, paste into your post, then highlight it, then click the [Img] button.
Copying the link from your address bar does not work.
At least thats the way I do it, others may have an easier way. |

got any pics of dash and back seat area? www.dunebuggyarchives.com is very nice place to identify your buggy but I'm kinda excited hoping its a rascal http://www.buggyblues.com/gallery/index.php?twg_album=sears+buggies
closeup of my dash and to the left of the steering wheel it slants back like 45 degrees.
under back seat area no cut outs for battery or storage and here is a rear shot of late model rascal
and looks like you have the rib down the hood. |

Glitterbugs and Rascals are very similar, but have several differences. Easiest way is by the dash. The tail box hangs out further on a Rascal (about 11 inches) Glitterbugs are less.
This may not be either , like I said - A pic of the dash is key.
email me if you can't post it glassbuggy@yahoo.com

| i'll have to take some more pics tonight to post up the dash. i tore it all apart last night after work. gotta love the late summer nights in the garage with a new toy. My 2 year old loves it already. Her eyes lit up when she saw the body on the backyard lawn. My wife wasn't too happy about it though! |

It's Glitterbug.
The dash hood and tail combo are 100% match.
Also the litterature showed the mudflap built in side panels.
Nice.
I would keep the artwork on the side panels if possible.
It's super retro!!!

Glitterbug for sure. The speedometer has that little extra space.
Take a look at the area where the windshield bolts to the hood. There may be three rivit holes where an id tag once was (both sides) However I talked to Bill Harkey (Glitterbug creator) once and he said not all of them had the emblems.

thanks guys. now i know what it is. my plans are to try and paint it red with big metal flake and redo the dune buggy picture on the side panels. I've been thinking of building it as an offroad toy but lately I've been thinking of building as a street only buggy. I don't know yet. I guess it'll depend on how the body comes out.
There are two big holes in the body in the rear compartment areas on the wheel wells becuase the fat rear tires rubbed the body and wore it through and then it broke more. At least that's what looks like happened. There is a battery box and another rounded impression possibly for a spare tire in the rear lower section of the body that is good. There are a few more drilled holes that also need to be patched up. |

| wait it might not be a glitter bug I think they only had a battery box no spare tire area do you have a shot of the inside rear? |

I have one, and the back is different. I also have a battery box and a spare tirewell. The rear "deck" area on my Glitterbug is straight across the passenger compartment, but has an arc across the back. There is no cutout near the air filter, also the front license plate mounting area isn't as wide on mine. The pic of yours makes me think of longer, European style plates.
I can send pics of mine if interested. Let me know- licciard@verizon dot net
Could it be a Spatz VF? They're similar to Glitterbugs up front from what I've seen on the net. |
