I had some trouble today and need your help. going down the highway as soon as I hit 3rd or 4th gear the car sputters and barely will go but when I get back on city streets it will go thru all gears full pedal no problems. Any guesses I was thinking the carb jets? I'm running stock 1600dp w/ weber progressive.

check you fuel filter, check fuel pressure. it sounds like you are running out of fuel, this happend to me before.

lol yes I've ran out of fuel before but full tank of gas, new fuel filter every few months and the one on there is new. fuel filter shows good flow only is doing this on the highway once I pulled over it, If I floor it, it sputters for a few seconds clears up then once I started to go again it would run till I hit 3rd gear and then start all over again. :?:

May be a weak coil too.

check these things:
Is fuel tank vented?
Is the float in the carb set correctly?
Check fuel pressure with a gauge.
get rid of the universal coil---they tend to overheat and replace with Bosch blue coil---they are internally resisted to lower primary voltage to the coil.
Add a can of SEAFOAM for good measure!!!

I did not mean run out of gas in the tank . I meant in the bowl. like you are not getting enough fuel flow to keep up with the demand. when you drive at a higher rate of speed the demand for fuel is greater so you my be draining the bowl . the filter will look full if you pull over and look at it, as it has had time to fill up again. try to go drive it down hill let it coast in neutral for a few then put it in 4th and drive id hard if it takes off and in a few ?? starts to sputter again, you are not getting enough fuel to keep up.

I agree with Murz, make sure your fuel cap is vented. It sounds like a vapor lock when you are at speed, when you slow down it allows the fuel to catch up.
Also consider where your fuel line is routed, make sure it is not getting to hot.
Good luck |
