How would I get the car loaded into the truck?

Call up a local towing co and ask for a ramp truck. They can pull the car up on the ramp, tilt the deck up to level with the floor of the U-Haul. Then drive it in. If the ramp truck is too low, you could have the guy drive it up on blocks.

Here is a link to U-Haul's towing page, good information, check the page links for more specific trailer or truck information. With U-Haul you do not have to rent the truck as well as the trailer to tow a car with as long as your tow vehicle is up to it.

This is a wee bit different but I am thinking of a trip from Toronto, Ontario to tour Newfoundland, and maybe Maine, PEI and Cape Breton. I am concerned that it is a long bit of driving for one person. Any ideas about shipping my van ahead to a major city (say in New Brunswick). Time is not the factor here, my concern would be overall the overall fatique and not being able to enjoy 'the other end' totally.

Any input, ideas, etc..?. I'd probably set aside 2 mths total for the trip.

I tend to drive early early am to mid afternoon and then like to sit.

Anyone have a number/contact for River City Transport?

Anyone have experience with Angel's Moving Autos? They have a HUGE amount of positive reviews on www.transportreviews.com

Any other recommendations from SoCal to Ohio?

Thanks
Paul
My experience with Angel's Moving Autos was great up until this afternoon.
They had told me that my expected ship date was tomorrow. So i was calling to comfirm today.
I got the owner of the company who turned out to be a real jerk to me.
I got a quote and confirmed the order last week after today the told me they might not be able to ship for another couple of weeks. The weather is bad where the vehicle is...I understand that....
But then she tells me that since now the shipment will proceed into next month my quote is no longer good. And since the weather was bad this week pushing the shipment back its going to cost me 700 dollars more than expected. When i pushed as to why this was so. She admitted that the girl that made the quote made a mistake. The mistake being that she had given me too cheap of a quote considering i had bought a vehicle in the middle of nowhere and no driver would want to pick it up. Plus no driver wants to pick up the brand of VW i like. So she said "i'm not about to pay out of pocket for my employee's mistake!!!"
And i got an email informing me that my shipment had been canceled.

I had nothing but good to say about them up until this morning. And alot of people have had good experiences with them...Just not me.
The boss up there needs to work on her people skills. She's was a jerk to me.

Im about to use Taylors Transport, if we ever get the paperwork done, and Ill let everyone know how it went.

For shipment from idaho to edmonton, Alberta, Canada, was only $1050.

Thats a good 1000 miles, with a border crossing.

I was quote anywhere from $1500-3000 from other companies.

When I spoke with Angels Moving Autos the lady was the most arrogant and condescending person I've ever spoken with. She laughed at the quote I'd been given by other carriers.

I would never use them.

I just had my 66 westy shipped up from NC to NY. I used 4 corners transport. They are a brokerage and they hooked me up with ajaco towing in NJ. 4 corners wanted $159 when they found me a tow co. Total price was $559 for uncovered transport, door to door service. Pretty cheap I thought. http://fourcornerstransportservices.com/

I'm using a shipping broker that came recommended by a fellow Samba member and offered a discount to Samba members...apparently this broker also had spoken in the recent past to "the guy who runs the samba" about advertising, member discounts, and such...I will withhold the company name for now (but it receives favorable feedback in this thread)

anyway, they can't get anyone to pick up the job, claiming that the winter weather is preventing drivers from taking the job from the NW to the NE...this is becoming very frustrating, as not only do I want to receive what I purchased, but the seller is justifiably aggravated...he has been very cool about it, but I understand his growing annoyance with the situation

I have spoken to one member who recently had a bus shipped from WA to VA using DAS...he experienced some delays, but not like mine...my shipper claims the WA to VA route is different enough the the winter weather has not affected shipping to the extent it has on the WA to NY route

this is frustrating for me because I chose the shipper based on the quote and the discount they gave me...now I'm facing a situation in which I have not only lost time, but money, as well

any suggestions / price estimates appreciated

thanks

I have been looking at vw's for sale in the us & had tried to find info about shipping to the uk & this is the 1st Ive found that is reasonably clear & offers recommendations too.

Has anyone recently imported a vw privately (I mean u didnt buy through one of the many VW companies out there) to the uk?

Who did u use to ship/import it?
How did u go about the pre-sale inspection of the vehicle?
Did u just trust the info provided by the seller?
Did u go & view it yourself?
Did u use an "agent"/intetermediary" to look on your behalf?

Sorry if these are lot of questions but Id rather ask & get no answers, than just take a chance.

Thanks

I have shipped a total of 3 cars from the USA to northern Europe, all with the same shipping company. They specialize in shipping cars, and they ship door to door, where they come and pick up your car at your address. I have been very pleased with their service, so have the receivers of the cars I shipped. Their web address is: http://www.shipping.dk

My contact person has been Thomas who's e-mail address is tha@shipping.dk.

On their website they have a pretty interesting film, that shows how they pack the cars into containers before they ship.

I HAVE USED ANGELS MOVING AUTO'S (WWW.ANGELSTRANSPORT.COM) TO SHIP AND TRANSPORT MY TWO CARS A COUPLE TIMES AND THEY ARE THE BEST, HANDS DOWN.

DINA, THE OWNER HAS BEEN ACCUSED OF BEING ARROGANT BUT SHE IS KNOWLEDABLE AND HAS A LOW TOLERANCE FOR BS. BUT YOU'LL GET THE BEST SERVICE.

GOOD LUCK

Just talked to Angels to have Gersons DC and a Vert brought to AZ from Florida, they had a great rate and said they can be picked up with-in the next 3 days. I let everyone know how it goes.

update. Contract signed, pick up date given, talked to the trucker also (angels gave me their phone number) to verify. Everything has gone smooth as silk over this move. Denna the owner is awesome, arrogant and what-ever, but knows her shit and is well respected by the trucking companies. They will be mine and a few of my friends go to shipper for now on unless something happens between now and the pick-up / delivery date.

update #2; both VW's picked up Sunday morning and are on there way here. Estimated delivery Wednesday or Thursday.

update #3 Angels did there job and held to the quoted price. I had them moved an extra 125 miles to be closer to me for pick-up. The company that Angels used had great communication in the beginning but dropped the ball at the end. If I didn't have the actual truck drivers number I wouldn't have known what was going on.

All in all I'm very pleased with price and delivery

don't even think about using amexpress...could not get my running vehicle on a truck and wasted a huge amount of my time (and the sellers)

I'm still having major issues getting anyone to pick up my bus...going from spokane WA to NJ, just outside of NYC so the truckers can avoid the bridges...even with the delivery location change, no one has picked up the job...I'm being told the price is right (by the new broker, recommend here) and that the NJ location will help get the job picked up, but so far no luck

I've had unsatisfactory conversations with several other shippers, and can't get a straight answer from anyone on when they can get it picked up...suggestions welcome

I had a BAD experience with DAS Auto shippers. They held my vehicle for over two months out on the docking yard. Their central office is in New Jersey , even wth the car in their front parking lot, they still couldn't find the proper documentation to ship it. The car was brand spanking new with only 21 kms. Since it was supposed to go overseas, they drained the gas tank. The deal fell through because of the delay. When I picked up the car, it would not start. The manager helped me push it up on a tow dolly, he wasn't paying attention and the car fell off the dolly. It was saved by a hubcap. When I arrived home, the car still would not start, upon further inspection it was determined they cranked the car so much with a dry tank, it burned out the fuel pump (which is submersible) it set me back $300. The car was finally picked up by the new owner's shipping company. I will not use DAS again.

I can back up these types of statements about Dina with Angels, she was extremely rude and condescending and on a hair trigger, most likely bipolar.

I was the one selling the van and had not set up the transport but she thought it would be a good idea to call me up and tell me how stupid I was to live more than 50 feet from an interstate and my choice of vehicles was poor.

I was not the one paying them but she thought she'd take some time out of her day to give me that call.

beteljuze Mon May 17, 2010 8:32 pm

Ok, so I understand to deal with a owner/driver, not a broker. There is a list of good and bad companies to use or not use, but is there a list of companies that are NOT brokers?

keithwwalker Tue May 18, 2010 3:23 pm

Realize that many brokers will tell you that they are the owners/drivers. Lots of bullshit to wade through...

Dennis K Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:36 am

After dealing with some other BS artist who wouldn't answer my calls.[ after he had my money] I contacted 4 Corners Shipping. Great people, They kept me informed at every step. They told me when the car was to be picked, They emailed me that the car was on the trailer. [ that is when I had to pay the broker fee] And I paid the driver the rest when the car was delivered. I would use them again. 4cornerstransportservices.com

Nitty Thu Jul 01, 2010 1:25 pm

I think that's probably the take-away point when dealing with a broker . . . don't pay the broker's fee until the vehicle is picked up.
