View original topic: Another shift rod question

I am replacing the shift rod in my El Lobo and have a question. The old shift rod had a notch cut in for the shifter, the new does not. My question is if/ how the new shift rod needs to be cut to accomodate the notch for the shifter?

Thanks.

It only needs the notch if you are running an early model shifter with the pin sticking out the front. If you are using an aftermarket shifter or late model one you do not need the notch.

Thanks for the comeback.

Both of these have the tab in them.

Does anybody know where I can find a later stock shifter that will fit the shiftrod without the notch?
Thanks again.

You can use a late model shifter in either shift rod. If you have the early shifter with the pin sticking out of the pivot ball you need to use the shift rod with the slot on the cup. The pin only keeps the shifter from rotating.
