pretty cool thought I'd share was just passed this from another site it is the mangosta buggy which is 1 of 3 known to exist out of the 6 ever made.

Very cool. It would be awesome if you could verify its rareness?

I sometimes wonder if I own the only Surviver ever made. :lol:

Is the gas tank located in the side pods? :shock: I'm not so sure I would like that.

Yours is the only survivor I've seen waiting for more pics as you complete your build but here is the info for the car and it does have intergral fuel tank. http://www.tajmagaraj.com/Museum/70_mangosta.php

There is a picture and a paragraph on that buggy in a A book
called "The Dune Buggy Handbook". Isn't very much, but its
the only other place I've ever seen one. The book said that
they were really stupid expensive so thats why the didn't make
very many. Totally cool buggy!!!

Ok, it's a longshot, but mabe it's him, maybe he has the molds, and he's been thinking of getting back into it, and he's just been waiting for a True Fan like youall to call.

If this longshot pans out, I'm not far from Escondido, to check it out; and neither is Meyers

That sure is a neat buggy. It would probably even be legal in the UK and their crazy vehicle laws (I know they need full fenders over there which this body has)

I just got off the phone with Karl's ex-daughter in law, She was a little grumpy, so I suggest that you keep the calls down.

Karl Senior passed away and she is going to refer me to Karl Junior. I have several addesses for him, if youall want to write him.

A few years back we recovered a complete and original Mangusta from under a house near Pismo. It had been parked there for some 20 years. the owner told me that he bought it from Karl in the early 70s. I’ll post a few photos when I get a chance.
I know of 4 that were on the road...

The Ventura area is an antique boy toy haven abundi. Nearby Santa Paula and Camarillo airports are stuffed with antique boy toys. This is where I found my buggy. The Ventura Avenue area is also a dusty pack rat storage zone, and is also right near the original Mangosta office location. I'm in this area lots. I figure that I will sniff around these three places. The old boys at both airports would love to hear a tale of a hunt for lost exotic buggy molds.

When I talked to Karl's ex-daughter in law; she told me that Karl was into lots of outrageous adventures. That tells me that he was the kind of guy that bounced on to the next quest, and that he likely left the molds behind; in an area of exotic boy toy pack rats.

The old boy toy gents in this area even have a private railroad rail line with lots of FULL SIZE antique locomotives. That would be the BUCK STUD of boy toys. ==> http://www.fwry.com/

Anyway, no hurry, cause I have no interest in glassing up a buggy; just like to create a sparkle in the eyes of the old dogs, and take a peek into their dusty treasure chests.

Nothing like digging up completely dead 13.5 year old threads, but I was just looking at the Sothebys site, and the Mangosta buggy from the Taj Ma Garaj collection doubled all estimates and had a final sale price of $106,400.

Kind of amazing for a buggy!!!
