Awesome bumper on that T2.

Connors Pass in Dingle, I believe that was the same pass I rode over on my solo bicycle tour of Eire! Damn that is sweet to see some photos of it again; I sure do miss Eire and can't wait to go back.

Love the buses!

I got my front end to a point where I could loosely assemble it today, to get the parts out of the way, and give me motivation :P

I doctored the photo to use as my desktop, even though it is in a constant state of transition. She's my 88 GL I picked up from the Samba about 2 months ago now :P I'm hooked, and haven't even driven her!

And Hi!!

Just picked this one up from an add on Samba. '82 aircooler with 2 owners, last 15 years has been one guy, kept in garage, or out in the desert. Came with a phone book's worth of maintenance receipts, extra parts, and all undamaged original interior, withc curtains...Drove it all the way back up to Santa Cruz from Oceanside without missing a beat. Score!

soon to get a mild lift, and a few extras for our pretty regular surf/camping trips to the central coast.

good to be back in a VW after a long hiatus!

Hi. I'm new to this forum. Just bought my first van. This -84 1.6d Transporter has only 172000 km on it, but the cambelt had blown because of age. So I'm now swapping 1.9 AAZ to it.

Here's shortened and ported LT intake manifold wich I'll be using

And some project BMW 16" RS's. Need to redrill them to 5x112. They're going to be 8 and 10" ET around 24... someday.

Here's my '87 GL, just drove from Florida to Central NY last month.
Just replaced the windshield (Wilcove-Rockford in Rome, NY) and replaced the water pump with a new Hepu.

Another Doka migrates southward from Vancouver Island. I picked this truck up from Glenn's small car repair in Courtenay. After a beer and some shepherds pie at a local pub with Sean, we filled out the paperwork and I hit the road that same night. I drove the 1,700mi back to New Mexico over three clear days in February. Got pulled over twice by police who were mostly curious about the vehicle. No v-dub sightings the whole trip!

Fixed/overhauled so far: throwout bearing+clutch, fuel hose, upper ball joints, shocks, sunroof, instrument cluster (MPH). New Carrot wheels from VC this week!

It's amazing how much a nice set of wheels changes the look of a vehicle.
I'd love to sell my 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 supercab and by a Doka, but my Ranger is so damn reliable.

Bought her last year, gutted the interior and built a camper set up. Been on the road since January 15th, traveling the US until the end of June 2012. She has treated me well.

Just bought this at an auto auction here in San Diego, $1700. Haven't had a chance to drive it around too much but engine and transmission sounds great. Middle seat and radio were taken out one small rust hole on side window but other than that looks pretty solid. Can't wait to get out and cruise!

We initially found our van on Oahu when I was stationed there. We bought from Jamie, who rents out campervans under oahucampervans.com(I think). She's an 86, with a rock solid motor. We added 16" wheels, a new propane tank, and a ShadyBoy awning on a west coast road trip in 2010, on our way to our current home in Tacoma, WA. Rust is an issue, but we love her none the less.

Gertie the day we brought her home.

Prior to new shoes and awning at San O, CA

Somewhere in Big Sur, CA

Best way to conduct airborne operations... with a grill and a mobile command center.

That is probably my favorite paint job to date! Very retro-cool. Reminds me a bit of the Island Hoppers van from Magnum P.I.

Well I am new to the Vanagon scene. I just acquired this van from a customer at the shop where I am a Technician. He was an elderly fellow and he said he paid $300 for it and that it had been sitting behind a high school somewhere for about three years.

It needed a master cylinder and quite a bit of other brake work, but it seemed to run pretty well (considering) with a battery and some fresh gas. So he approved the brake work, paid for it, and wanted me to continue going through various parts of the van to see what it would need to be roadworthy. I fixed a ton of little things for him, pretty much for free, but haven't gotten around to the engine yet.

He showed up one day and told me his HOA won't let him park it at his house because he has too many toys. He said I could have it for free and he brought me the title. I felt like I had won the lottery. I've always wanted one of these!

So I'm looking for a thread that has a good major engine maintenance procedure if anyone could shoot me a link.

Kopasz Sat May 26, 2012 9:27 pm

Great score Frankie. Can't help you with the engine thread, but doing about a zillion searches and combing the results usually nets something useful. Patience and a beer are your best friends when using the search.

Have fun with your new van!

Hi,
I've been scanning Samba for some time now but this is my first posting. I thought I start here in introducing my vehicle.

There are some other pictures of it on SyncroGhia's 'lightweight' thread. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4...;start=80. It's a 1990 syncro which was originally a van with a full bulkhead and a three seater cab. It also had the JX turbo diesel. Since that was on it's last legs when it came to me about 5 years ago I swapped in an AAZ engine. Whilst that went well I found it unbearably noisey. It is now running an AGG engine from the late MkIII Golf GTi. This engine really suits it and returns average fuel mileage in the upper 20's.

Inside I have installed seating from a Multivan (captains seats, buddy seat and rock & roll rear bench). I am working installing some camper furniture - mainly an overengine storage box to raise the level to suit the bed and a kitchen box. More for weekends than long haul trips.

cheers

Gary
