My Bentley manual should be here next week, in the meantime I have a broken dipstick tube - the plastic aprt that meets the stick. I see from a search online that these are maybe a $3 part, so cool - but what is invovled in repalcing it?
Does the old one just pull off? I thoguht maybe it screwed off but it seems to just spin?
Thanks for any input as I really want to repair this ASAP.

Those dipstick tubes (or "funnels") just pop on there. You have to pop off what's left of the old one, clean up and remove any of the pieces if it breaks, then pop the new one on. Sometimes they don't like to seat all the way, but leaning on it with your weight coming down on it squarely pushing on it with the palm of your hand, usually pops it on there good.

thanks for the quick reply!
just got back from the parts store with the tube, got your reply, yanked the old one off and the new one went right on nice and snug.
Easiest repair ever...
and it seems to idol a bit smoother now. may be my imagination. |

Youre welcome! The smoother idle may not have been your imagination, as the crankcase is now venting properly with the dipstick sealed properly. I've seen a funnel replacement result in better idle more than once before.
