after driving on highway/ in town for about an hour, I started slowing down to turn on my street, I down- shifted into 3rd a little to early and the engine started revving real high and the shifter got stuck in third gear..the clutch pedal/cable was working but it wouldnt shift into any other gear only 3rd gear was working...after a few seconds I finally got the engine calmed down and shifted into 2nd... I was going slow but it seemed to have alot of torque/power in tranny....I put it in neutral and coasted home....I started it a few hours later...I backed it in/out of driveway a few times fine, but was afraid to do anything else....any ideas of what I did/broke ?
its a 78 westy.. 2L engine (about a year old--serviced recently)... progresive carb. |

| replace the clutch cable. It may have frays in it. Also make sure your engine ground strap is good in case the clutch cable is carrying voltage. |

This certainly sounds like it might be the problem along with a typically crappy progressive installation.
There are three sets of mounts. There is a set on the mustache bar which are prone to tearing loose, a set over the transmission that may be missing fasteners, and a single one on the front of the transmission with is often missing the bolts and plate that hold it to the frame.
How did someone run the throttle cable for the progressive? Does it have some way to allow for a bit of engine movement where it enters the engine compartment? |
