| Are there any alternate ring and pinion final drive gear ratios available for a Type 3 automatic transmission? |

yes, if you want a lower ratio. Your ratio stalk, is 3.67.
The T-4 automatic has a 3.91,
The T-2 has a lower one yet, I don't know that one off the top of my head. Maybe a 4.12 or similar.
Someone with a late T-2 book could look it up. |

Bringing this one back from the dead.
I am having the ring and pinion replaced in the transaxle portion of my auto tranny because they are shot.
Do I have to replace it with the same ring and pinion gears from a type 3 auto transaxle?
How about a standard transaxle bug or type 3. How about an auto transaxle from a type 4.
If I can use different ones, what are my best options. |

You can replace it with ring and pinion from either a type 4 automatic or a type 3. They are essentially the same. There were actually two ratios that came in autos for 411 and 412. The type 4's used the 3.67 on carbed models (so you are not likely to find too many on this continent) and teh fuel injected models used 3.91:1.
Either way they are the same manufacture. Eitehr ring and pinion is interchangeable.
On these transmissions, the pinion gear presses off of the pinion shaft. So if all else is good you can swap just the gears if necessary. Ray |
