| When I was getting some more rat turds out of that 1960 double cab that I got, in that hollow space beneath the front seat there was a plastic bag with the remains of some rubbers (I don't mean seals) and what looked like had been joints (reefer madness): a rat had gotten to them. That must have been one stoned rat. |

Crofty, that's why they have red eyes!
When I got my '67 Kombi from the original owner it was heaped with cricket-crap papers and whatnot. Behind the seat I found this little card/box and almost tossed it then realized it was unopened and still had the toy in it. It had the top part of the card but I though it only valuable with the box so I tore off the top of the card and tossed it. Sheesh. It's a 23 window, the engine lid opens, rear hatch, side doors, has jewel headlights, and it steers. It says Kresge on the box and on the bottom of the box it says there was an ambulance version.

In my '64 I found the original owner's ID card from the VW dealer. It was just sitting in the dash tray. Has the original owner's name, and the name and address of the business,(the same one that's logo'd on the Bus.
In my '67, under the rear seat I found a dealer service booklet to the Bus. It has service records from 1970-1975 and it was serviced at a dealer which at that time was about 10 miles from where I live. |

surprised at the number of people finding weed stashed away in their bus(wasnt there a thread a while back of a bus that was properly stuffed full of og gear under the belly pans? and a pickup with a closed up treasure chest for same?) even stoned hippies should be able to remember where that shit is hidden.
i didnt find that much in mine: few aussie coins with platypus on them, few calling cards from various campsites around australia, old pipe made from stone, a small pocket knife and sand, lots and lots of sand  |

I was cleaning up and sorting out all the rubbish in the cab of my new '67 crewcab when I noticed the missing speedo pod switch's hole was filled with paper...
Slicing my hands open on the homemade radio brackets, dash screws, and miscellaneous other sharp objects, I spent 15 minutes seperating the wiring to pry out a piece of newspaper, dated FEB 25, 1989...
It was really scrunched up good and forced into the back of the pod.
There seemed to be more, and a few more minutes of work revealed two more pieces of newspaper, a lunch packet with some sandwich seeds, etc. leftover, and a supermarket plastic bag, all from the same era.
After the first piece, I thought perhaps there was contraband hidden in my bus! I got scared, then excited, and then disappointed as it turned out to be nothing.
Very interesting reading adverts, job vacancies, and news from '89 though.
The local car dealer had exceptional deals on used rides, plenty of good jobs, and the local IT shop advertising the latest mono-screen, 12 Mhz 256 Kb RAM computer, with keyboard! ...for about 280 USD!
