I'm torn between the two color schemes. I agree, the orange and black would be a more obvious tie to HD but I think the bright orange in that quantity may wear on me after a while. The black and silver is a little more sedate, but I think for the long run it may be easier to live with. Plus the sound of straight pipes with fishtails hanging off the back should be a dead giveaway that something's different.

I tried the info for the company above. They stopped making the part a few years ago..... :(

Rats!

Could they be persuaded ($$) to make one more?

Do they have engineering drawings that you could purchase to have someone else make it?

Unfortunatly he wasn't too helpful and barely even wanted to talk about it...... the search goes on...

Hmm...

If you found photos from other angles, you might be able to have someone fab one up...

Good luck!

No suprise there considering their price.!

Look at the pictures and what's involved, all it is basically is a bell housing to bolt the tranny to with room for the clutch and pressure plate and a mount for the v twin. If I recall, there were problems with the motor mount itself cracking from the vibration of the motor. Certainly that part of the design could be improved. I've seen a couple Vtwin powered rear engine VW style trikes on the net that appeared to use something similar. The main spacer looked like overkill, while the mount itself seemed kinda like an afterthought. Here's their patent.

Corbin Motors built (or attempted to build) the Merlin with a Harley engine adapted to a VW trans - Not sure how the connection was made, but what would it take to attach a HD motor to a VW trans?

I used to have some photos of the assembly process of the Merlin -

Note that Merlin showed it using a water-cooled engine, but the test vehicles I saw had air-cooled HD engines...

I finally found an adapter but it's $1800, made in germany. I Haven't been able to find a reasonably priced twin cam (b) engine. They are all in the 5k range.

Cool idea!

Why do you have your heart set a Twin cam? They have to have extensive enging work done after 20-30k. The adjuster shoes that the chains that run the cams run on chew apart. then the chunks of adjuster shoe go through your engine and screw up the oil pump as it goes through the pump before the filter. unless of course the cams are already changed out to gear driven.
I would personally go with an evo engine. S&S all the way. a nice 124 would haull ass. Or even a 145

I like the idea of the swap but how well will the bottom end of the Harley motor handle the load of a 3300 LB bus VS a 600 LB bike?

I just wonder how the crank and bearings will handle the extra load?

I thought about putting a EVO in a SuperBug, but didn't know they made an adapter. I may have to look into this. But like posted above will it handle moving the larger vehicle?

get a s&s 145 and it would push no problems, S&S bosts a 180hp out of the crate with the right exhaust carb and intake.

Hi when I was in York pa. this past summer at the Harley open house there was a guy with an old Mc cormick Deering Farmall tractor with a fat boy motor and seat on it. He simply used a jack shaft with a double sprocket above the trans imput shaft wich had a double sprocket and used a double chain to drive it worked great!!! That tractor hauled ass :!: :D :D

ok think mini buggy we done several like this one a Ford IRS rear end,,, ya want even lighter BMW IRS rear end,,, with jack shafts,,, get the gearing via changing sprockets on the jack shaft,, or go back farther in time,,,

make a plate to fit the front of the VW trans with a sealed bearing to carry the input shaft,,,,,,, cut the top half the vw trans bell off,,, we used the center of a disc ( the hub) with a plate welded to that,, drill for a sprocket....mount the motor so it lines up ... now days it's an option chain or belt ..

your going to think that new seal carrier bearing won't last,, look how long a vw gland nut bearing last with out lube....LOL..

Oh hell they get luded,,,every time a flywheel seal goes out
