View original topic: Single Cab Gas Tank Dividers, anyone sell them these days?
amishman Fri Jun 02, 2006 3:39 pm

I have a 1961 that is missing the divider panels between the gas tank and treasure chest. Any company make a replacement or where can someone find used ones. I already posted a wanted to buy ad but curious if some creative mind has made so remakes or something? Are these hard to find item?

Anyone have a picture of what they should look like? I did not see any in the gallery.

Are they the same design for all year single cabs? Or one size fits all?

Do not want to buy the wrong thing.

Thanks

They did change through the years, but I believe 61 & 59 have the same style, so here's a picture of mine in the 59. Hope that helps.

OK, someone answered my WTB add and has these for sale. They look similar but the ones you post seem to have a longer top lip than these. I wonder what year these white ones were made for and would they work on my 1961?

They maybe baywindow singlecab deviders, but not sure. Asfar as I know, they will not work in your single. I remember this all being cover befor, so I'm gonna see if I can find it.

BOOOOY  I feel like a fool
I actually posted the question & it's says the dementions are the same for all years, but the design changed, so don't pay any attention to my previous post. Here's the link http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66438&highlight=devider+panels

OK, thanks. The design of the white ones I show above definately looks different than yours. Is there anyplace that shows what design was used in what years. I would prefer to use at least the right design for my 1961 and not use a bay bus version that is different.

Thanks

The black ones shown were used mid to late 60s, not correct for 59 as stated.
The white ones shown were used up to mid 60's

Both styles will fit up to ~67 regardless.

then there is the 66ish/67 and later style with the built in seal

Thanks alot Kommercial! You made me feel even dumber then I already felt!

I've been searching for another thread that had pic's of the different styles, but can't find it for the life of me. I shouldn't say it, but when I bought my deviders the seller told me these were correct for my 59, but maybe he just wanted to sell them & b.s.'ed me, or he really didn't know himself, so I'm not gonna complain :D

Amishman,
If you buy the ones you were offered, I'll be more then happy to trade with you. I'm not to concerned with the correctness of them, but would be more then happy to help you get yours as correct as possible. Mine have been coated with POR15, so that is why they are black if anyone was wondering.

Hey Mintonman, I think I found the other post you were talking about. It's http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=153597&highlight=divider+panels
Dave Mayes links to his site with a few pics of different styles.

mintonman Sat Jun 03, 2006 2:27 pm

YES! thats it & this was a link someone put in there with the info about the deviders. Click on it & scroll down to the bottom pretty much & you'll see the info given above by Kommercial is correct. http://www.amayesing.com/fueltap.htm

I have a 1961 so need the early style like the white ones I posted. I just purchased them and they should fit nicely into my 1961.

Thanks for all the help to all.

Well, My brain isn't under any influance today so I read this again & boy the info is all over the place, so Let's get it straight & together.

According to Dave Mayer :
The white ones pictured are 1952 to about 1962/63.

The black ones are from about 1962/63 to middle of 1966.

The others pictured below were introduced in 1966 or 67 & used to the end

Hoefully this is now correct, if not, let me know & I'll correct it.

Maybe I chose wrong then if that is the case. grin. I thought when he said the black ones were "mid 60s", I took that as 1965ish, middle of the 1960s, not July 1960, middle of the year. So I chose the whote ones where I thought they were like late 1950s to the middle of the 1960s, like 1965ish. Oh well, they will work for me either way if I chose wrong. My 1961 was born in August 1960 anyway so that is almost mid 1960, hehehe.

Happy Sunday!

Mintonman, you are interpreting david's page incorrectly.

The early long rib style (white ones in pic) were used 52 up to sometime in the 60's. It was replaced with the short rib style (black ones in the pic) sometime in the 60s. I think it was around 62/63 when the changeover was fully complete.

the later ones with the built in rubber seal came into play 66/67.

the "57" he mentions is in reference to my 57 he asked about.

mintonman Sun Jun 04, 2006 3:57 pm

O.K. Kommercial, I edited it, so hopefully now it's correct :D

I can confirm by checking the panels from my April 1959 Double Cab, that my panels are the "long rib" style panels.
