I/myson own a 1993 VW Fox. Right now it's problem is that sometimes the ignition switch seems to try to start the car (but never starts it) and sometimes all we get is silence when you turn the key. We've already replaced the starter and the coil and tested the ignition switch.

Any one got an idea what this problem might be? It's been a great car for the $200 I paid for it 4 years ago but now doesn't run and the 17 yr old with the keys is getting a little frustrated! :?

Thanks

many times mechanics forget to re-attach the ground cable from the hood to the firewall. when the ground isn't connected it will cook the starter. I cooked 2 new starters before I found out there was supposed to be a ground strap.

We've got current to the starter but no spark at this point.

Any ideas?
