Hello all. My name is Erin and I own a 73 Thing. I am going to be featured on the TV show Pimp My Ride on June 22, 06 at 10pm on MTV. My boyfriend and I attended the VW Classic in Irvine, CA on June 11 and some pics of my car are on the Thing shop's website. I took home 3 awards. Best Paint, Best Interior, and Most Outrageous. I want to thank the Thing shop for all that they did to supply the car with most of its goodies. Thanks

| I'd like to see the show. I live way out and have no cable tv. Congrats on having fun while making a Thing look good. Can you make a "loaner tape" for Thing Lovers? That would be cool. I would chip in $10 to $20 for expenses and start up postage. What do you think. I'd love to see your car on the show and be able to share it with other Thing lovers!!!! |

I thought they only "pimped" cars that were on their last leg of life. All the shows I watched were literaly basket cases.
Congrats on getting picked. How did that happen? Did they see you at the show, or did you put your name into a web site?
I'll be sure to watch to see what they say about the car (always a funny comment at the beginning) as well to see how it turns out. Be sure to give the secret Samba hand wave on TV.
Too bad there's not a secret Samba TV hand wave by the way. |

I think it was pimped months ago and the show will be on in June. It takes months for the producing of the final show. |

It's got to be the green one with reptile skin here http://www.thethingshop.com/album.html
Only X & Co. would put a flat screen monitor in the door.
They hooked it up pretty nice.

| Yes its the sour apple green with the reptile graphics and the 27" lcd TV in the hood and computers in the doors, my Anaconda Thing. My boyfriend submitted an email on fathers day 05 so its been about a year since we began the process, we got the car back around Christmas. The only award I had before was Best Work in Progress from the El Cajon Classic Cruise, (A get off your butt and fix this poor thing trophy). If I can maybe I will find a way to digitize the episode and shoot it out online commercial free. Should only be like 15 minutes then. |

I totally wanted Xzibit to pimp my 73 Thing, I just couldnt figure out how to make my car look like a wreck without photoshopping it.
I pmed you a few mins ago, Id love to see what you submitted to get you on the show. I cant wait to see it on tv.
I was at the VW classics show, i saw your car and the album and figured it was done awhile ago. Thanks for coming to the Thing forum on the Samba and updating us and introducing yourself!

The only thing I don't see on this Thing... is an engine.
How is it possible to push those big LCDs and lights with the standard engine?
External plug to run everything? |

| Engine huh, well I am still under contract so I can't release anything, but I can't control what you do with your pics, but the engine is now a 1917cc Turboed engine built by CB Performance, and the car has 2 yellow top optima batteries, and Anaconda was played for over 3 hours at the show with NO problems. |

Ah, thanks for the update. I figured a 1600cc VW stocker would never run it.
I gave up on MTV right after they quit playing videos, somewhere back in the, uh, 80s'.
One of my fondest memories was working out the gym at Palmer Station, Antarctica in 2000. I popped in a blank video and found early 80's MTV and VH-1. Talk about dialing up the wayback... |

That is Preposterous!!!!!!!!! |

Come on folks be nice. I'm sure I speak for all when I say that it's one fine Thing now. I wish I had an extra that got pimped by MTV.
While I'll agree that it was nice to have music videos on a music video channel, I don't hold the fortunate few that have lucked out by gaining from a show.
The Thing is a real nice show stopper. Have fun with it. |

| As usual Bucko and I hold the same thoughts. That is one cool Thing. Get off the "That's not how I do would do it." I have two Thing and would love to have one of mine get pimped on their budget. At least that way I would have a completely funtioning electrical system. As a group of classic car owners we should all realize that we are living a part of the long term car enthusiasts dream. I only hope somebody tapes the show for me so I can enjoy another page of Thing history.. |

I would like to figure out which episode of "Overhaulin" that a Thing was reported to have been modified. I have tried to search the TLC website, but all they have are the season 2 episodes listed.
Of all the "fix up" show, Overhaulin' is my favorite - it inspires me.

the Overhaulin show i saw with a thing, was done for the husband of the "victim".. the main car i think was an older corvette. the husband had a thing, and they just did a little work on it. they didnt show the work being done. they just showed the thing @ end of show.
caspar
if there is a show where the main car was a thing, i havent seen it, but would love to watch it. |

I think that is the episode I heard about - kind of a "double-haulin" episode.
