the low beams/high beams are brighter than stock and the driving lamps are almost between the two with a broader pattern... |

just a reliability update:
I have had the square back about a week from having the oil cooler seals replaced... I've been diddy-bopping around town, short trip to the store, around the block, etc...
I asked my wife if she wanted to go around the block this morning - she said "Sure"
so we pile in and head out... on the way back to the house, she says "Let's go get a burger".... and I am thinking: if I strand my wife, I will never hear the end of it.....
Drove into the next town for a burger, pulled into Sonic and turned it off (always a big no-no)... ordered a couple of burgers... and turned the key...
it fired right up -- drove home the long way and had no issues at all...hell, even my wife said it was fun...
maybe I can trust it again... |

that's the first I have heard of a true Weber carb being junk; I will watch for that, but you are the first to report...

:?
all the other installs I have seen seem to have the carbs mounted 180 degrees from these....
but they don't seem to be hindered by the orientation - in fact, the square has never run better!
and it is definitely easier to get to the plugs with the carbs mounted this way... |

true - but with the carbs mounted in this direction, it is less so...
could be worse, believe me... |

So, am I darkside for running factory EFI retrofitted to my Type 34? Or, am I darkside for cutting the roof off? Or am I darkside for installing IRS?
Funny, I don't FEEL darkside. None of the changes I'm making are really mods. I'm keeping everything 100% VW. I look at it like this: I'm building the car they SHOULD have built- A cabrio Type 34 with fuel injection, IRS, disc brakes, and possibly A/C. You could say that the cabrio conversion is a mod, but I'm going strictly by some old factory brochures, so it isn't like it was never done by VW.
Blankie, if you are happy with how your Square runs now, then screw the detractors. I know it's been a long, difficult battle for you on this pile on all fronts and I admire your dedication and perserverence. That does NOT mean I'm not gonna fling poo, but I thought you should know that. |
