View original topic: 914 rear caliper e-brake adjustment

I have 914 calipers on my bug and I am trying to get the slack out of the pistons for the e-brake. I turn the adjustment screws in the proper direction but, they do not snug up. On the left caliper, the outside did snug up though. I have these calipers upside down, does this matter (I wouldn't think it would). Is there something I am missing or, could these adjusters be worn out? Any help would be appreciated.

With the calipers on the wrong side, the bleeder screws will be on the bottom. This means you will never be able to properly bleed the brakes.

The outer adjuster screws directly into the piston. The inner one is gear driven by a small gear that has a 4mm hex socket. Because of the gear, the direction you turn it to reduce the clearance is opposite to the outer screw.

This inner gear strips out very easy, so if you have no movement of the pistons, this maybe the cause. Stick your allen wrench in there and try to pull it out. If it is stripped, you can file off the end to allow fresh teeth to engage the gear of the adjuster screw.

Set the gap between the pad and roter to .25mm. From then on, every time you pull up on your e-brake, the brakes will self adjust.

I agree and use some Speed Bleeders to get the air out of the fluid.

The trouble is not bleeding the brakes, they work fine. I cannot get the e-brake to work. I have adjusted the cables properly and the little levers on the cailpers move completely to the "on" postion. I cannot get the slack out of the adjusters on the outside of one of the calipers and on neither inner piston, I was thinking that the adjusters were broke unless there is something someone else knows.
