Hello, brand new to the forum (and VWs) and already find myself in need of assistance…
I am the new owner of a 1980 MkI Scirocco. Legend has it that the car ran when it was parked in the neighbors backyard 5 years ago, but has not been started since.
After charging the battery the car would crank, but not start. I changed the cap, rotor and plugs then troubleshot it down to a bad fuel pump. I drained the tank and replaced the pump. The car will crank fine, then start for approximately 1-3 seconds, but then dies. It feels like it never really catches.
I have verified fuel is getting to the rail but don’t know what to try next. I suppose the fuel filter should be next, but have never tried to resurrect a car that has sat this long so I thought perhaps I was missing something.
Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

| get the bentley manual for your car. If you have cis-e you could check idle air stabalization valve, fuel pressure diaphragm, vaccum leaks, control unit, o2 sensor, there are all kinds of things that it could be. |

check that all hoses are on even the air hose from air filter to throttle body. my golf sometimes has the induction kit, pop off and it wont start from there.
either that or keep it running on pedal, stick some injector cleaner through aswell, should help it, especially if its been sat for ages.
put new spark plugs in
new rotor arm
dizzy cap
ht leads
