Does anyone know who makes these seals for a resonable price? Im considering buying a Type-3 and have been looking for potential spare parts and I could not find any seals (for rear windows). Hope some one can direct me the right way. thanks!

I have never looked into Fastback parts, however, ISP West has pretty much all you need.

Sad answer seems to be NOBODY. I'm taking mine off the car and putting the old fixed ones back in with new rubber, since my old rubber is as hard as peanut brittle and leaks like a sieve.

with so many type-3 owners its hard to think that these seals arent available... what gives?? thanks for the replies!!

the ONLY place you can find fastback pop-out seals are from donor cars - NOS ones do turn up occasionally, but they are going to be expensive and won't last long before someone will snap them up...

they are NLA...

good luck...

The reason I'm sure they are not made is because of the cost that would be involved in making them would not make it profitable to sell them. And it's ALL about the money.

When you pull yours off (after unscrewing them) take a look at the way they were made and you will see why it's is not cost effective.

Donor car out of a junk yard is you best bet or have some $$ set aside when a set does appear. Every juck yard you hit take a look. You may get lucky and get a right from one car in one juck yard and a left from another. That's how I got mine. Just keep looking till I got a good set about 90%. And I was VERY careful when I unistall/installed them.

I've been looking since I bought my car 2 years ago, they come up in the classifieds from time to time, but someone always swipes them before I do :? You just have to be quick mostly, or find some in a junkyard.

They've been NLA since 1990, as that was when I tried to get a new set for my wife's Fastback. At the time I originally ordered them, WCM had a set in stock. But by the time my money order got to them, they were gone and they weren't getting any more. :( I had to install fixed window seals, until I got lucky and found a good used set in the classisfieds on vwtype3.org (they came out of a car about 150 miles from me). They weren't perfect, but the rubber was in decent condition, and they do seal. This was back in 1998, so I haven't really been looking for another set, but I'd love to find a new set (they'll only go up in value). That being said, your best bet is to contact the T-3 Detectives. Bring plenty of cash, as the last I heard, they were going for about 150 per side.

Hey guys.....
My 68 fasty is about to undergo a restoration and the popout seals are in borderline shape. If they didn't have to come out for a new headliner to go in I would definitely keep them. (they're a little tired but uncracked for the most part) I had the procedure explained to me and it sounded like it is going to be pretty hard on them making the swap.
Do I need some cal look rubber as a backup?
Anyone in seattle want to do my glasswork in exchange for them?
Any words of experience would be appreciated.

You should've had a sign taped up near the weenies saying "Fastback Popout Seals For Sale, See Brian For Details".

*I* knew you had 'em, but mine are in decent shape and still seal.

well, they weren't listed because i was a bit pre-occupied from the point i received them until this last sunday. so, now i might do an ad, or not...
