Can someone post some pics of these flexglass frames on a car? I posted about Peter's Fasty on the calender thread, now I want to see how they work. Just curious...

I don't know for sure, but I've nvever heard of any difference in fasty popouts for ANY year.

Squares are another matter, with late models lacking the pillar hinge tabs.

Theres a slight incompatabilty with late windshields? At what year? I know that when you take one out on a later car, there's some extra metal grips that keep the windshield in better.. On something like a 68, you could just pop out the whole windshield with gasket by pushing it out with your feet.. If you try that on a later car, the glass will always break

Bingo.

Ah.. oh well, I wouldn't even qualify that as a slight incompatibility.. Just that the later cars have the sharp metal grippy things, and the earlier ones don't.. As far as I know, the glass and the gasket are completely compatible.

And if I were replacing a windshield on a later car, I'd probably leave the metal grippy things out.

Back in the 80's when my dad and I were parting cars left and right. At the junkyard we normally took cars to, they happened to be grabbing a squareback with a big claw (and the car was pretty intact.. Normally we picked our clean). The force from the claw on the roof just popped out the windshield complete, intact with gasket. It goes without saying that we grabbed and saved it .

Okay, with 6 pages of this topic in the forum I didn't read every reply, but wanted to share what I do, so sorry if this is a a repost.
Using masking tape, mask around the edge of the windows where they would seal on the body. Then mask the windows inside the seals. Get some black silicon glue/sealent and apply a thick bead all the way around on top of the original rubber seal. Then take either a piece of heavy cardboard or a putty knife and spread the silicon evenly on top of the original rubber and feather the edges along the masking tape. Be steady and take your time.
Allow the silicon to setup - BUT NOT completely dry, then carfully remove the masking tape.
It's not as cool as new rubber, but it does do the trick, and it's a lot less expensive than buying and replacing new rubber seals - if and when you can find them.

This is for the regular windows, not popouts, right? Thoswe seals ar available new, and this won't work with popouts. My popout seals have shrunk, and pumping black goo onto the hole would likely not seal for long. Also, it doesn't seal where the glass pushes at the rear, so it would still leak.

I used to do this for door seals when the flap brole off, but it just doesn't work well with glass, epecially popouts.

C'mon, Anthony, let's see those new ones! We are desperate! ;-)

KTPhil,
It might not be a cure-all, long term, but it's worked on my pop outs for almost two years so far with no leaks. Maybe I just just lucky???
It's worked great on the front window too.

ok here are some sample photos to keep everyone in the know...

the pop out seal is really intricate, with 3 different extrusion profiles, to correctly grab the frame, glass, trim and fit into the car,

the photos are of the pieces unattached to each other, but overall will makeup a single fastback pop out seal

we should have these complete and for sale shortly, enjoy!

Cool! I was beginning to worry the project was falling apart or delayed further. Please let us know when and how much when you have that figured out.

Anthny,
How many sets will be available with the first run? Are you taking orders or deposits?

PIMPPRIDE Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:50 pm

no preorder or deposit necessary, pricing will be determined after the final production run is made, also with new windshield seals that do not spider crack

KTPhil Tue Mar 25, 2008 6:25 pm

Do you know how many the production run will produce?

Any Idea of what the aprox. cost? What quality is the rubber? I have bought rubber gaskets from ISP that cracked within months. Since this is obviously a steep investment the rubber needs to stand up well.

Considering they will only sell 5 of them, they should cost $397 each to cover their time, effort, money involved

Ok pal only 5 sets? you wish HA HA how the hell are you Jason? Shark callook rubber would be what I want since I hate chrome window trim on my car. But just the chance to get replacement pop out rubber is a step in the right direction I am sure most of us FASTBACK PEOPLE would agree.
