914, '71~74, 1700, 76hp@4900, but with dome pistons.
It's in a 71bay, not sure of the tranny in it. Driving, the rpm is 5000 @ 55mph, 75 @7000. Need to know what is the redline for these engines,
thanks |

redline is 5800rpms, above that for too long and the rod bolts with break.
Ah, time to change the tranny out to a 091 with better gearing.
That should be a W or EA motor then with 80hp 8.2 to 1 compression so run premium and watch for pinging pushing a bus, |

thanks,
it is an EA engine. Has plenty of power, will almost pop the front tires off the ground at a dead start.
Hubby tested the gauge(vdo) in it against his other car, reads correct, so he swtched dist from his car to the bay. old points out, electronics in. Works like a champ and now reads much better! 70mph is about 4800rpm, normal cruise at 55 is 2800. That's about what it sounds like too.
If it ever gets to 5900rpm, I'll request to get out! |

i was always wondering, why do the 914 motors take premium?? i fill up with 91 and the engine still pings when the engine warms up. Even in the winter weather. |
