View original topic: Airkewld Double Cab is sketched ready for the goods! Goto page 1, 2  Next
Airkewld Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:15 pm

We just picked up a 1959 Double cab that is in Ok shape. No real rust anywhere just years of abuse by PO's. We are going to make this a very tastefully done Double cab with no hacking but subtle details to set the truck apart. Here are some before picks of the double cab.

Here is the sketch that is in the making for the rendering that should be done late this week.

We are going to drill out the spot welds on the dazsh for the speedo pod and we are going to modify a banged up Barndoor Speedo Pod to fit the dash.

We just got a Barndoor speedo pod that we are going to have restored to make the dash look classy but different.

We are going to out fit the drivetrain with a set of RIZZAG drop spindles, BAD series Frakes front and Rear with 4 Piston Wilwood calipers, IRS Trans Conversion, Type 4 Fuel Injected motor with DTM, Custom Stailess steel dual exhaust. a 1.5 shortened rear end to fit 17x7 wheels up front and 17x9.5's in the rear. We are installing Early Pressed bumpers, Wolgang Safari's front and rear and we are powdercaoting all the frames black. Vents in the rear quarters will be removed in favor of a remote activated crotch cooler style flaps in the back to allow air into the motor compartment.

Here is a pic of the wheels that we are installing on the bus. The trick though, is we are going to get the center of the wheels BLACK CHROME Plated with the lips of the wheels a standard chrome.

We are going to anodize the brakes blue to really have some BAD ASS Brakes.

The overall paint scheme will be Dove blue on the bottom and black on the top.

I will keep all of you posted on the build up of this one. ETA Volksworld 2007. I will be shipping this car to the UK for the Volksworld show in 2007.

F & J Body shop in Downey, Ca. is going to do the paint and body. Volksworld is looking inot sponsoring my car over there but if that doesn't pan out i will look into regardless. I look at shipping a car over there in a container by itself and it was $1200. I will let you know!

No trim, i want to keep it monochromatic. Kinda german look style but mixed with our flavor. Handles and headlight rings will be paint matched to give it a clean look.

I guess I`m just old but I really think it would look better without the big billet wheels.

i would most of the time agree with that , i am partial to the wide five wheels .looks more vw to me , but i think the way there going with that one it will look good. its more custom than resto.

New sketch is done with the modifications.

We decided to go with the standard bumpers and we are going to air brush them to look like pressed bumpers. We are changing out the mirrors to a billet style but mounted in the original location. We ordered front and rear safari's from Wolfgang, had the frames along with the front window franes and side pop out frames all powdercoated for a good protectant. Got back my spindles from rizzag, they look sick! Pics to come later.
