Those clocks are very cool. I've only seen 5 (including yours) in the past 12 years. They were made by Kunika. The small dial is the second hand and keeps time for about 7-8 days per winding. To activate the light, there is a small Brass pin at the bottom of the base (under the 6 o'clock position)
If you're interested in selling, let me know

I'd say more beautiful than the Benrus being as the Benrus steering wheel clocks were never intended for use on a VW.

I agree. The Benrus clocks were originally for American cars, Chryslers I think. Then in the 1990's a heap of NOS Benrus clocks appeared. Koch (I think) made housings for them and sold them. While they are nice, you lose the horn button function on the Oval steering wheels.
I think this is a classic example of a non-VW accessory that has come to be known as a rare VW accessory, when in actual fact, it isn't.
Much like many of the VDO clocks made for Ford, Goliath etc, that people now fit into the oval dash grills, and then claim it is a rare VW clock.

Don't forget the Kienzle clocks found in Mercedes & BMWs.

Yep. Kochs machined an adapter hub to mount the Benrus clocks into either the 1950-55 or 1956-59 steering wheels. Back in '94, Kochs sold them for only $150
