i'm working on my buddy's 914. what is the best trans lube for these things? it has the typical grinding when you try to shift fast. :x or down shift. why do these things always seem to have bad syncros ? :? will synthetic gear lube help or make it worse? like redline or something. additives :?:
thanks for any ideas

| In most cases, synthetic will make it shift noticeably worse. The early Porsche-patented synchros need a high quality dino oil. Swepco 201 is the most popular, although not cheap. |

Swepco 201!
If you want to shift fast you must get all the synchros fixed first!!
Most of the these 30+ old trannys are worn from bad oil, no clutch adjustments..etc.
Get new shifter bushings too and change the synchros and any other worn parts and the 901 will shift pretty fast. I AX mine and I can shift it pretty easy and fast. took some work. |
