I bought my Ghia while living in the US, ( replacement for the one I sold to go out there ) when I came home to the UK, so did the Ghia.
It has to be registered in your name as a personal vehicle for a minimum of 6 months, keep all documentation to prove it i.e, licence tags, date of purchase etc.,
From shipping the car in US to seeing car in the UK took approx. 4/5 weeks. (car shipped from NY)
I got a call from the shippers in the UK to collect it and drove it home on US plates .- No Import duty to pay !
Once home, got MOT, it then took about a month and an inspection ( verify age/car numbers - recommend getting birth certificate from Wolfsburg to validate car age) to get issued with a UK registration (pre- 1963 age related plate).
Also recommend getting spare parts while out there and putting inside/on car as shipping them back over later can be expensive.- Its a shame you can't fill containers up with petrol - as thats a shock when you get back  |
