Thanks for the comments folks. I'm new to the bug so this thread has been a great help regarding the 67. Lots to learn! |

No matter to me....They're both coming off and being sold anyways...
BTW...I got a question on aftermarket vs OG bumpers and fenders while we're on the topic....There's obviously a visible difference to you guys that know...How about letting the rest of us that have no clue what the differences are...I already know that my right front fender is the incorrect year, but been told they both are aftermarket....Not a real big deal to me that they're not original, but wondering how to tell the difference... |

easiest way to tell repop bumpers is the rubber grommet between the overider and the blade..67 one year only is the way the overider tapers down at the center for decklid clearance on the rear bumper.
your right front fender doesnt have a horn grille, dead giveaway its a repop...horn grilles should be about three 'fingers' from the apron seam...and If ya ever saw my junk you would laugh about the refering to me as a stock nazi,I just find the 67 only stuff to be cool. |

Yes you're right...the left is a repop too...it really doesnt matter unless your showing the car as a correct '67 restoration...That looks like a nice driver which IMO is what a beetle is for. |

Not headed for original resto...Original engine is long gone, so I'm gonna make it "mine"... |

All Euro 1500 DeLuxes were 4 lug w/ discs up front
No US 67 has 4 lug unless the PO change something IE drums, tranny PAn
__________________________________________________________
I will add to that; not all Euro deluxes were 4 lug. The deluxe 6 volt 1300 was a 5 bolt and of course the 1200A. There are six basic beetles in in 1967 and possibly more. Since the Samba is a world wide look in at the VW world as many variations should be present. So in USA you have it's own version of the deluxe and 12V. In Europe you have the 1500 deluxe, 12V disc brakes. The deluxe 1300 still 6v and old style headlamp, and the 1200A Standard model 6v. Mexico still uses the 58-64 body in 1967 and is 6v.
My 65 standard next to a friends 67 deluxe 1300, 6v, old style headlamp. My friend bought the car new in Hamburg.

I would love to find out other variations like Brazil, and down under cars.
And yes my car has deluxe towel rack bumpers which all Standards could be ordered with, mine was ordered this way to be able to pass U.S. customs for U.S. bumper height requirement.

I have a questionable convertible, that has a lot of 67 stuff on it, that could have been placed there by a previous 67 lover. I have all the smooth knobs, the rare 67 seat belts (even rarer for convertible), decklid, front fenders, bumpers, etc.
So i'm wondering if there is a measurable thing on the body that is 67 only. Like dimensions or something or other. |

Things that stand out (to me), as not being able to easily be removed, changed, bolted, or welded on... a 1967 Beetle Convertible base body.
Mounting points for the rear suspension/axle "Z bar". (67-68 )
Mounting points for the combined sunvisor/folding top receivers. (65-67)
Mounting point for combined rear view mirror/dome lamp. (65-67)
Door latch catch (body side) is a pin type. (67 up)
Body hole for brake reservoir larger side to side hole for dual circuit reservoir mounted behind spare tire. (67 only)
If it has (at least) these 5 identifying features together, its most likely a 67.
More highlight honorable mentions...
Convertible top rear body "U" lip (after Oct 66 post VIN 157250032 I think)
Center defrost vent all steel dash (66-67)
Emergency flasher knob hole above key all steel dash. (66-67)
Doors use the pull handle, as well as the claw and pin type latch (67 up doors).
Small holes for the thin body trim. (67 up)
If you have it all....its a 67 body. |

Thanks! Good knowledge right there. I was concerned it could be a 66 body. I already know i have a 68 pan. So the 67 only stuff is what I was looking for. And I definitely have the 67 brake reservoir. And all the other things seem to be there.
your help is greatly appreciated. |

Well, I have finally read every page of this thread. Lots of great information here! I love it.
I recently acquired a 67 convertible. With the help of samba.com and mostly this thread I have learned that my pan is a 67 standard (117 048 228) and the body is a 67 vert (157 657 252).
I am not certain but I believe it has the original deck lid and most of the other "stuff"
It seems like something strange with the top though, there is no back window in the rag top.
There are a lot of peoces missing too, things like door handles and some trim, breather, seats (there is a passenger seat and a back seat but I think the PO stuck them in as they dont seem to be the right ones). Anyway, its definitely a project but I love it!
Rather than post a bunch of pictures here is where I have them http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=498839 |

Just purchased a 1967 conv. with no rear seat bottom. I have heard it is a '67 only part. Does anyone have the dimensions of the '67 rear seat bottom? Also - what makes it unique vs. other years?
Thanks |
