| Today I came across a burnt 356. It appears to be the victim of a garage fire. The car was pretty complete. It looks to have been pretty rusty beforehand. The engine bay looked complete. Bumpers were there. Obviously anything that was aluminum, plastic, rubber, etc. is destroyed. The hood looked like it was maybe usable with a lot of work. The decklid was destroyed, and a forklift operator destroyed the roof. A friend of mine took the oil cooler and tail light housings today. I plan on going back tommorow to take what I can, probably at least the bumpers, engine tin. I'm not an expert on these cars by a longshot, nor do I know what year it was. If anyone has any advice, plese let me know, I'd like to get what I can off of it before it is destroyed. (further). And no, they won't sell it whole, I've tried many times before without success. :( |

Grab everything and anything that looks decent!
Door latches, strikers and plates, window crank mechanisms, door release assemblies, bumpers and brackets, steering box, column and shaft, seat sliders mechanisms, runners and tracks, transmission and mounts, matching date-coded wheels, engine hanger, carb linkage, shifter mechanism and rear coupler, handbrake assembly . . .
Need I go on?
Just scan Ebay and the 356 sites, you'll know what to grab and what it's "worth."
Good luck! Nice find.
Oh. and don't forget the brakes for Troy . . . |

| I can't remember if the oil pump was there or not. The brakes were kind of melted, and on one of them molten metal oozed through the holes in the rim and prevented me from taking off the hubcap. I got the 2 overrider bumpers off! There is some usable stuff in the engine bay like the fan shroud, some generator parts, etc. The muffler looked solid but it was dented when they dragged the car through the yard. The hood is still there, but stuck shut. The trunk floor is gone, floor is the same, seat tracks are falling through it. Between the rust and the fire, theres not much left, although with a sawzall someone may be able to get some more stuff off of it. It's sad to see one of these beautiful cars in such sad shape. :( |

How a bout a few pics? It's always so . . . haunting . . . to see a 356 in a junk yard.
Thanks! |

| I wanted to buy one wheel just to use for a garden hose or something. One was in the car, melted off. The studs had pulled right out, and they were still attached to the wheel with the lugs. |
