Hello,
Finally after 10 years cut the knot and started on the bodywork.
It will be a 100% better than from the factory restauration done by my bodyworker who is about my age and an an oldschool bodyworker.
He used to restore MG's for several years and is able to create panels from plain sheetmetal.
This thread will not be a show-off of how money I have or whatever but a more of a guide of how to do things right + materials to use and the time spending on recreating - removing - replacing panels + paint preparing till the paint booth.
Already cut out some rot altough it was a low mileage first owner car.
Bodywork + painting + welding is quoted for approximatly $ 6500.
I know, a lot but will be worth it ! Never been keen on early early notches or squares.
Most of my NOS private collection will find it's place on the car during the build up.
Currently is stripped and has it's entire front removed + one rear airbox drilled out.
List of the NOS panels I already collected:
NOS front nose panel
NOS front inner nose panel
NOS L + R front inner wings
NOS fuel tank carriers
NOS front bonnet
NOS L front + L rear fender
NOS R front + R rear fender
NOS L + R entire length outer sills
NOS L + R entire length inner sills
NOS rear apron
NOS L + R rear air box bottom repair section
NOS rear decklid
I need some help regarding one of the NOS inner rockers.
I found a late LS (with the slots) and an early RS (with the louvres)
I prefer the early type with the slider more.
ANY chance someone has a LS NOS inner rocker to swap ?
OR the the piece with the slider from a wrecked pré '67 TIII itself.
A NOS RS late inner rocker would be OK to as I found those flaps + plastics and controls in NOS packaging.
Help out a brother in need please :)
I know I will never become a 1500 club member but I can assure when the car will be finished it will be a showcase of how a TIII has to be restored / preserved !
Foto's tomorrow !

BTW I am writing down the hours that will go into the body in it's own.
And you don't want to know what it's gonna cost - or will have cost in the end.
Collecting stuff for over 10 years now - no way turning back :)

Some progress - made me a new trolley which will stay until the body is finished and painted !
Where it's bolted to I already prepped it with a zinc coating after bare metalling
Welded in a square to prevent flexing while removing the heater channels
Everything was measured before welding !

That's a Euro low mileage car to you US folks !
I am just a freak - had a tiny hole in the inner wing and decided to remove the entire wing :)
Do it once - do it good - and sleep tight 8)
Psychological disorder thingy I guess

Thread Hijack Warning!
Can somebody tell me the purpose of that rod that's welded to the left side of fasty bodies? The one above the wheel well in this pic:
Sorry BerT3, but inquiring minds have to know. |

OH, duh!
That makes sense. I kept thinking it must be some strange stiffener that they only needed on the left side. What a doofus. #-o |

Some progress while I was parts hunting in the Netherlands
Scored an almost complete NOS overrider set with original instructions - all supports - rubber collars still in the bag !
Got a lead on that remaing piece I need from someone German
The bodyworker removed the fuel tank brackets - did some work on the inner wing etc...
Currently the pieces are screwed together to get everything aligned - awesome job
BTW in relation with the previous update this progress was done in 3 hours !

Bare metalled the entire remaining front after cutting out the rot and removing remaining pieces
Note the 4 large spot weld and some hole for what I think would be a hole for wax oiling - this was kitted closed from the factory though
Roof + top sides will be bare metalled too - don't trust it to be sanded - and the etched primered
@ Angelo, you finished welding ?
