Engine recently replaced it states.

Makes you wonder why some one would sell for only 2500, me thinks.

But I do not see it has AC.

Kinda a deal breaker for many of us.

Claims engine has low miles since rebuild.

Had clutch done, but what about the transmission?

They did do a bunch of stuff, but you need to inspect professionally to be sure.

Hard to tell from the small pictures.

There is a similar 85 in the same color with out the fuggly strips near my home for about half.

What they did does not really cover that difference in my book, even as nice as it seems to present itself.

Hi all! I have been lurking on here for awhile and have just started looking but have fallen for this Weekender . . .

http://www.carstigemotors.com/C1333/1986-Volkswagon-Vanagon_Weekender.html

I have little to no mechanical skills to speak of but can do routine maintenance and have a mom who has done car work and would help me. I don't have time or skills to really do more so I figure I'm going to be paying for it . . . That being said- hubby, kiddo and I all commute together in another car so the van would be strictly for out of town camping and fun trips!

I pulled the Carfax and this is a one owner van with 264k on the body and it looks like 120k on the "new" engine. It seems kind of expensive compared to some I've seen and about 3-4k less than others. I freely admit that I am easily distracted by sparkly/prettty and I don't want a Eurovan] Is it worth driving 100 miles to look? Any thoughts would be much welcomed!

Thanks!

IMHO, that is way overpriced for that many miles. Keep looking. You can do better.

This looks like a good deal for an existing Sub conversion. Photos in the ad.

1985 Westfalia Weekender - $8800 (Davis)

A 1985 Westfalia Weekender. Clean title with a 2.2 liter subaru conversion so it can keep up with traffic. A few minor issues but overall, a strong runner and perfect for camping, fishing, or road trips. 170 thousand or thereabouts with tons of life left. The conversion was done three years ago and has less than 10,000 miles. Please no requests for shipping or checks drawn on the First National Bank of Nigeria. In other words, serious inquiries only.

Thanks for the input. I think you are right, that van is overpriced. But SO sparkly . . .

I'll have to look at that Davis van. Much better price and they get points for the Nigerian bank draft comment.

For sale near me..

Went to check it out, but haven't pulled the trigger.. Complete interior, runs, drives.. rust on the hatch and the nose, little underneath... $2800 to much??

(This isn't THAT Van, it just looks like the picture in the ad)

Verbatim:

1995 Eurovan Camper, 182K, 5sp Manual, Sleeps 4, $14,500, park it in your garage, no sales calls please, 970-227-2730

I know nothing about this van except that that's a pretty good price for a Eurovan camper!

Hey, this looks like a good deal on a Syncro........

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1274592

Wait one second, IDAHODOUG

Quote: 1987 Syncro Price: 9200
If you are looking for a Syncro GL to enjoy for the upcoming Summer, and someday fully restore into a collectible, this is a very worthy candidate. The body is dry and rustfree, the entire vehicle is original, and we just finished mechanically refurbishing it from the perspective of a knowledgeable Vanagon owner. It has always been adult owned, and never in trouble as to its maintenance and care. Originally delivered in Germany to a US Air Force pilot, it was then purchased by an Air Force officer and brought back to Georgia. We purchased it there and trailered it back to Idaho.

It drives smoothly at 75mph, with no freeway speed shake as some Syncros suffer. The 4WD system has been gone over including correct expensive front wheel bearing inner seals for water fording, repacking the front axle CVs with new correct boots, and the viscous coupling is currently being serviced with fresh fluid and seals.

The interior wall panels were removed for inspection and cleaning and double insulation installed. While out, the seats and mattress cover were cleaned and new front seat sliders installed. The dashboard was removed, the heater core refurbished with new foam on the air diverter flaps, cables lubed and motor connections cleaned and lubricated. While the dash was out, the ground stars were removed and cleaned, and the fusebox connections were checked. The original 2.1 engine’s heads were removed, a professional valve job done by a specialist, and reinstalled with quality parts. The exhaust was removed and reinstalled with correct VW-type fasteners and seals. The fuel injectors were removed, and sent to a professional to be cleaned and calibrated. The troublesome plastic T water distribution tower was replaced by a stainless steel version. Correct Michelin load rated tires with the discontinued reinforced sidewalls were fitted.

The list of things done would fill several pages. Contact me and I’ll provide details. The intention of all this was to create a Syncro that I could take my young family out into the remote woods of the Pacific Northwest and Canada for vehicle-supported camping and overland travel. However, as I have become more involved in the Vanagon community, my willingness to dent up and possibly damage an increasingly rare vehicle in all-original shape has changed. Instead, we have secured an 87 Weekender 2WD, and will outfit our LandCruiser for heavy backcountry travel.

Freshly painted FJ Cruiser yellow (family project) with a white top for heat dissipation, new passenger carpet, interior steam cleaned and located in beautiful N. Idaho where you can start your first trip. Rear locker, power mirrors, new German antenna, etc, etc ad nauseum. Thanks for looking 208-762-3451 $9200 [email protected]

Just thought to add that we may be able to work a deal on trailer delivery if you live somewhere between here in Idaho and Georgia as I may be going there to get an 87 2WD Weekender.

Its not bad..but its not original by any means as his ad states. Also I could never bring myself to shell out that much cash knowing that it was brush painted.

Also just say it doesnt meet your needs and the 2wd weekender you bought does...theres no reason to worry about denting up a syncro passenger...they arent rare..just my 2cents!

(we just finished mechanically refurbishing it from the perspective of a knowledgeable Vanagon owner)----

(4 screws into the dash removal and stumped already. No mention of how to get the locker knob off so you can remove the dash)

(Ooh, love that yellow!! It's catching on as the coolest Syncro color ever)

Who wouldn't want a yellow syncro from the guy that invented the concept. Brush painted no less its got to be worth more being the original.

purplepeopleeater Sat Mar 10, 2012 6:50 am

Try not to make this a bashing session, Doug posts alot here.

Don't want anyones knickers getting in a knot.

thats my job.

kurt vonnagon Sat Mar 10, 2012 7:44 am

Posting a lot doesn't make your ad true. It would really suck if you flew out to see an original syncro to find it was brush painted. But at 9 grand that's not going to happen. BUT YOUR RIGHT i should posted on

This looks pretty amazing but I'm guessing the reserve price is going to reflect that.

purplepeopleeater Sat Mar 10, 2012 6:34 pm

thats my 2nd or 3rd favorite color on a vw.

vw7266 Sat Mar 10, 2012 7:06 pm
