The music never stopped. Grateful Dead

drober23 Mon Nov 09, 2009 6:43 pm

The Moody Blues early albums seem to capture the bus spirit for me. Particularly "To our Children's Children's Children", and "A Question of Balance". Can't believe I scanned this whole thread and only saw one passing mention of them.

When I am feeling like old stuff, Pink Floyd, Beatles, and the Doors are all fine too.

Lately I have been adding Radiohead, Counting Crows, and System of a Down more than is probalby healthy.

Best song to calm your nerves after a close call on a snowy day with your bus:

Steely Dan - Do It Again

Quote: You go back, Jack, do it again, wheels turinin' 'round and 'round
You go back, Jack, do it again

After I braked hard and hit some slush this morning on 36 West, causing me to swing around a bit, I lucked out and switched lanes and brought the bus back around to a stable and straight line. Left me s***ing my pants for a split second, but after Steely Dan kicked in and I heard the chorus, all I could do was smile and laugh. I was having way too much fun

Good to hear Steely Dan pulled you out of a psych-jam, riomx. For myself, I've recently been off on a hard rock/metal tangent 'specially the new wave of British heavy metal stuff, like:
Judas Priest
Diamond Head
Motörhead
Iron maiden
Angel Witch
Black Sabbath(pre-Dio)
Old frontman from previous band
Megadeth
Brocas Helm
Mastodon
Mötley Crüe(earlier stuff)
Sammy Hagar(and the rest of Van Halen, too)

I'm usually a late 60's to mid 70's classic/psych rock person though. But the song that I can't dig out of my skull has to be:

Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks

When I'm in my bus I think of this song, and when I hear this song I think of my bus. Good thing you can't wear out grooves on a CD!

PK399 Mon Dec 28, 2009 8:51 am

Too many to mention, but here's a few
Jefferson Airplane
Allman Brothers
Neil Young
Gordon Lightfoot
Grateful Dead
The Doors
Edward Bear
Electric Prunes
and yes The Moody Blues
I have a large record collection and if I could set up a turntable in my Bus I'd be a happy man.

While I agree with a lot of previous selections, its pretty hard to beat "Summer Song" by Joe Satriani.

When that beat and melody kicks in, when you're on a nice smooth highway, cruisin' along on a sunny summer day with the windows down ..... sometimes it makes me want to really lose myself, throw caution to the wind, and crank my speed up to almost 60mph!

aparrothead Mon Dec 28, 2009 2:08 pm

80% of the time, I have Jimmy Buffett playing. Other than that, I'm playing rock-n-roll like Van Halen, Journey, White Snake, Night Ranger, etc.

But, you can't beat a cruise on the Blue Ridge Parkway with the windows down and Love and Luck playing on the radio!!!!

Chazbot Mon Dec 28, 2009 4:21 pm

I like Bluegrass music too! But don't know the groups...

Here ya' go, download some free live Grateful Dead :P

http://www.archive.org/details/gd89-02-06.sbd.miller-walker-scotton.26330.sbeok.shnf

All you need is a tape deck and a cassette adapter for your MP3 player(or a newer deck with an input jack). I got a portable Siruis satellite player, though...heh heh. Channel 32 -all Dead, all the time w/ live concerts every day! Works just like an mp3 player. Didn't even have to install an antenna for it, the portable player has 100 hours of memory so you can record blocks of music at home & replay it on the go. $9.99 a month if you get the music only package. Man, they should pay me for advertising, lol

edt- Oh, maybe you can only stream that live Dead. Man, my computer is so ghetto, lol.
