Hello all,
I have a 79 Westfalia with 2.0 type 4 engine and 3 speed automatic transaxle (010 type). I removed the engine and transaxle to install a rebuilt engine and perform a general engine compartment cleanup (paint engine tins, repair stuff that looked iffy, etc..) Anyway, I have it almost all of the way back together (engine and transaxle installed, wiring hooked up and control cables reinstalled). Unfortunately, my Bentley manual doesn't cover the automatic transaxle for this year (only 74-76), and the transaxle is much different than described in the manual. I took pictures before removing the engine, but still can't figure out how I should adjust the kickdown lever. The rod that controls the throttle is connected to the kickdown lever and has a threaded length adjustment that controls at which throttle position the kickdown is activated; however, I am not sure exactly where to set the throttle position relative to the kickdown. Do I want to have maximum throttle before the kickdown is activated, or otherwise? Thanks in advance for your advice! |

It will be much easier with 2 people doing this as you can have someone
depressing the pedal while you adjust the link.
As long as you are within 2-3mm. of having the kickdown switch engaged
it should work.
