View original topic: Shopping for a fiberglass body

I'm building a 69 to bune buggy conversion.
I plan to buy a new long fiberglass body and I'm trying to decide which one will be my best bet.

I've talked with the Bandit guys and the TRS guys. They both seem to be good people and I like their products (keep in mind I've never done one of these before).

I'm leaning toward the new Bandit 2 body but, like the old saying goes, you don't know what you don't know.

This is my first time through this and I'm looking for some advice. Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom? Is there anything to steer away from that might not be obvious to a newbie like me?

Just some thoughts. A long body buggy looks real good with a 3" lift, and if you plan on doing one of these, some of the body manufacturers will drop the rear seat area down 3", this allows the occupants to sit lower in the body, allows for a lower roll cage, and additional room around the carburetor if you are going single. I would also look at the body from the rear, the ones that imitate the Manx look the best in my opinion, others look kind of funky. Good luck.

At least two things there I hadn't thought of. Thanks for the pointers.

make sure the fiberglass is thick I've heard there is some really thin bodies out there being produced. I agree with above post about funky body styles. I got some pics on my site and some more on www.buggymuseum.com to get some ideas.

Hey Buggyblues, That green buggy under the heading of Manx is an impostor unless the the hood has been changed.

you might take a look at the bodies advertised on the off road section Scott makes a mid travel long pan body that is wider than most so you can use full size seats, wished it was avail before we purchased or long body.

RTS make s a nice quality long body - http://www.absoluterv.com

and Dan's Performance sells one with the lift built in if you are interested in doing a mid-travel car -

Thanks folks for all the information. The Vegas buggy site had a lot of information on fiberglass (it seems like you could fill a barn with what I don't know) But I'm learning a lot.

I have been out to talk with the guys at RTS and that was an education in itself.

Thanks for taking the time to give me pointers.
