In my opinion, blatantly wrong posts like the one I've quoted above need to be deleted from threads like this sticky that are here to educate.
hotfries75's post will only confuse someone that reads it.
Not to add to this thread (but I guess I am anyway  )...but everything after the first post could be deleted.
But I guess everyone has fun poking sticks at Glenn????
Actually, I ran into a guy here in town that thought his own Bug was a Super because of the vents behind his windows. It was definitely a Standard. |

No, but you can't get as low in the front as a standard Beetle.
In the US, the rear is exactly the same whether Super or standard.
For the front, read this: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=143097 |

Then you should delete this erroneous statement:

Have a look at these two cars:
One of them is a Super, the other is not.
Who can tell the difference?
No guessing here, you have to state how you know. If you are the owner or know the owner of either car, you are disqualified from this question. |

| I'd say the green one is the Super because of the bumper impact strip. |

All USA/Canada spec 74 and later Beetles and Supers had the rubber impact strip and the plastic end caps. See Glenn's red 74. The owner of the orange car above has removed these parts.
That is NOT the difference.
Here's Glenn's 74 standard Beetle:

| The only other difference I see is the trim around the rear window on the green one. |

That's not what sets them apart. The rubber could have been changed over the years.
Don't bother checking the colour charts. That isn't it either. Both of those colours were available on both models. |

| The orange one looks wider... I would say that one is the Super as it looks "fatter" and "beefier" than the green one. Look at the vents under the rear window... and look at the distance from the vent on each side to the edge of the car. A definite difference in distance. |

| Oh, I see it now. The orange one and Glenn's have the same exhaust. |

The top orange one is a super, the bottom green one is a "standard"
Notice below the liscense plate on the orange one, the simplistic edge; the green one has what looks to be more sopisciated stamping. It does look a little narrower as well, but this may be from parallax as the photos are taken at different angles. |

Wider because I was standing closer to the orange one.
The difference is not so subtle. Once you know it, it's actually quite obvious. You are, however, very close. |

There is no functional difference whatsoever between stock supers and standards at the rear. Any difference in these photos is due to addition of aftermarket parts or is a phantom difference due to slightly different views from which the photos are taken, and shadows.
If you're trying to point out the chrome strip around the window, well, there you go. |
