That lighter one looks a good colour match, is it supplied in the States or Europe?
Here is another sample i found second pic with flash, the small sample is og headliner that must have been trimmed off when the factory headliner was fitted, it was under the rearshelf carpet.

this also a 'West of England' cloth available in the UK. It doesnt look that close in the pictures but its probably the closest i have found colour wise

ok, i just measured both original and new with my caliper, any other suggestions? the outcome...

real---basic thickness .95mm
crushed thickness .42mm

new---basic 1.4mm
crushed .66mm

it does have a bias.it has almost a felt look to it but looks to have stitching/thread thoughout in the center of the fabric.

i guess the only concern i have is how much it may bulge at the seams of the window sections where it should be flattened out. im hoping maybe an iron might help this or maybe just have to trim as close as possible to lose the bulge.

the other issue is that it cost $92 a yard.waiting on a response as i dont know the width it comes in.this supplier is in the US.

Do you have a way to measure the thickness of the original and the replacement. How different is the thickness. Does the replacement have a bias? (By this I mean does it stretch in one direction and not another?

The cloth I used and the cloth karl used on our barndoors are not identical, they did however come from the same manufacturer. The West Of England cloth came in three grades.I picked the middle one that had a little less weave, because Bernie and I felt it had a vintage quality.Karl chose the finest grade, super deluxe. They both look superb in our buses.I have the samples Mark sent to me.These are from quite a while back so I dont know if the material changed from roll to roll, but when I saw what he had in his workshop and we compared it to an original headliner in an an amazing Barndoor there, it was superb.I hope this helps

Thanks Andy, did you ever look at the moleskin in comparison to the West of England cloth?
Hi by the way, we met at Volksworld this year, at Dave Clarke's stall.

Damon.

Hi Damon, the moleskin is closer to Karls choice in texture and density,as for colour match the West of England was a closer match.Good meeting you at Volksworld :D

We bought 10 metres of West of England Wool, this was enough to do the headliner.
Andys was called Union Cloth,
if you've got samples you'll see the slight difference between them on the card. yes they did come from the same supplier.

Duncan sent us a sample of his 53 OG headliner from under his rubber window seal (which had not been faded by the sun) we also had a sample from our own bus from under the rubber window seal, and Simon gave us a sample ......(ooooeeerrrr mrs) to us the west of England wool was the closest match.

my advice is just buy what you like the best.

Karl :D

I had it done.

Went for 10 Metres of West of England 100% wool, there were a couple of different suppliers/quality/shade, of course he most expensive was the nicest.

£50 a metre, thats $1,000 in cloth before you've started.

Peter at NewForest Autotrim did a brilliant job, my only bugbear was that he chipped my 5 thousand quid paint job installing skylights and said "cant you use touch up".

He also made me a sunroof cover in brown "mohair" which is waterproof convertible hood material, looks fantastic.

I had the front bench recovered and bought a 10m roll of vinyl for door panels etc.

Cost me a bit under 2k, which I thought pretty good.
I've looked at a few samba woolcloth headliners and mine looks to be up there with the best, so I'm happy.

Email me if you want Peters contact details.

Actually, you're welcome to come and look at mine if you like, It won't be moving from Lymington for a few months though.

Looks like a nice job, i've just had a few quotes, looks like a good job will be up to 2k inc material. Did you get the material yourself or did the trimmer supply it? If you have a sample i'd be interested.
Simon

Timmer supplied it, he gets his stuff from MOTRIM (I thought, but cant find them on the internets... so I might be wrong)

2k included all materials, sunroof cover and inner, trimming the bench and a 100 quid roll of vinyl. A standard bus should be lots cheaper than that with this guy. £1200 at a guess.

52 headliners for a dlx/ sunroof modle
Has anyone got a close up shot of an original piece
and should it be all the same
ie skylight / sunroof front and back and down the windows ?

Cheers
