Actually, not even in R&R. This is racist. Language is right up there with religion and politics as a hot button issue. Should not be in TheSamba. I'm an old fart too and I don't understand some of the language that is used here but it never occurred to me to think of it as blackspeak ("Ebonics"). I just assumed it's youthful "in" talk.

Yeah. Ebonics is an effort to document the way black people speak on the "street". Unfortunately a lot of black people took it as an effort, well-intentioned as it may have been, to actually set black people back by institutionalizing poor English. I'm not taking a position either way, all I'm saying is that it's not worth even addressing this issue on TheSamba as it's as far removed from VW's as you can get and it's going to get some people seriously pissed off.

wow- well thanks for the heads-up, i was totally clue-less as to what Ebonics was. NOT!

but as you can see- i wasn't attempting to address anything except that maybe Everett needed to have something to "help" us ignorant fools out- and as you can see Everett thought it might be of some use- HE posted a thread in R&R

Yup. Never assumed bad intentions on anyone's part. Just thought it was important to mention. I agree with you, it would be nice to know what some of the "in" expressions in TheSamba mean.

I deleted the R&R thread because it was just going to go downhill. It had started already.

I don't think mentioning Ebonics is racist, although the very idea of creating another valid "language" is both ridiculous and self-defeating.

If you want to know what a particular phrase means, you can post it here. I'll answer if I know it.
