i am curious, are those two gold pins real or just plain repro?
plastic case (guess it's the later type) , unidentified marks in the back. VW emblem diameter is approx. 5mm.
:?
(i have a fobia now, with all the cheap repro parts, and it's getting more and more difficult to decide what's og and what's not, but the ca$h is always high)

The first set of badges is not what I would invest in.
The second set is out of focus for a reason.
How's that for a "tired" response.... :D |

Is this the real deal?
The badge seems to be made of copper, and shows slight wearing of the plating as a few copper-coloured areas have appeared......
Could anyone tell me what it's market value might be if it is OG?
Thanks!
 |

You did well. :D You could have bought a repro for about $70, but you would have to figure in shipping costs............Oh yeah, it would have been NOS at that price. |

All the repros I've seen are horrible :( , the badge just jumped out at me from the table at the show I was at yesterday saying 'buy me'!
I hoped it was genuine, and as it only cost £20 (approx $30) you can imagine I'm quite pleased with the verdict on it!
Thanks again.

... fake or not?
not mine, but judging by the faces and the belt of St Chris, looks more like a leather belt not like a rope.. i'd say good repro.
opinions, please?
thanks

If you look close at that one you'll notice that St. Chris's face is facing a bit in the wrong direction compared to the OG one...
Now, where can I get a set of them "MIT Shell" badges? Considering that they're going onto my 70 Beetle I might even consider a good set of repros, as long as I can pay repro price for them. |

Actually, that one looks good IMO. The "small head" Christ Child is the preferred early badge. 8) |

| It is real, but it is not the earliest version. The age or patina is exactly as it should be for the later version. The first version, with the smaller child's head, used mercury to"plate" the medal. It was more expensive and also dangerous but it did last longer. The second version's plating almost always shows deterioration. Collectors will pay more money for the "quality" of the first edition, but both styles are "original"........... |

| BTW...............avoid any flat badges, and look for the mounting screws to be silver soldered to the badge. The rear of the badge should be also be darkened with patina. The blue enamal is also distinct in shade. It is very much like the "Hazet" blue; once you "see" it, you will recognize the fakes from ten feet away. |

Notice the "O" in Kilometer and all the 0's are smaller than the rest of the letters.
