| How about an autostick or maybe a transmission/clutch forum category. I'm bouncing between General, Bug, and Ghia looking for information on clutch cable tubes, autosticks, and coversions. I'm finding what I need but having a separate category might increase the quality (or decrease confusion or unintended misinformation) - just a suggestion |

| There would not be enough posts to justify that. |

| And if Everett adds another forum to this site I'm going to lose my job 'cause I'm not going to have any time left to work... |

I have to agree with tmckinn, I also have an auto stick and a real pain to find info/help when jumping all over the place.
hmmmm maybe I could start an auto stick forum...... |

| All of that should be under performance anyway. Why don't we just start a forum for steering, braking systems, suspension, and so on. C'mon Everett!!!! LOL! Individual needs!!!! |

| I would like to chime in on the desire for a transmission specific forum. I am more than willing to tackle my transmission woes but for the fact I do not have the experience, cannot find a good manual or any guidance. I LOVE TheSamba, and I try to contribute as much as I use it's resources, and I think a transmission section would be a definate improvement. Just as the "Performance/engines/racing" has a special place because the common issues cross so many years and models, the same goes for transmissions. Doing a search of all forums for "transmission" produces 7503 hits from across many different forums. And considering there are several existing forums here that do not even have that many posts, I think that speaks for itself. |

There's a dedicated website for VW Stickshift and Auto transmissions that also has an active Forum: http://www.auto-stick.com/
Webmaster Mike is a regular contributor here on the Samba: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6694 |

Certainly not enough for an autostick forum, but the Transmission forum over on the STF does quite well.

Any potential Transaxle forum would cover all gearboxes, including Bus and Type 4s. |

Can't get a rise outa ya, can I?
If I look at the total number of topics on the STF's trans forum and compare to the 411/412 forum over here, there's 5 times as many transmission topics on the site with much less traffic.
Maybe the 411 forum should be consolidated into the "Other VWs" forum. |

But every car has a transmission, not many 411/412's out there by comparison
Doesn't seem like a good analogy? :?
The search works better if you limit the forum to each one at a time.
And for transaxle information try using an "author" such as "Bruce" or "gears" :D |

Realizing unless you have been on the site a newbie or even some who have been on a while might not know who to use but I am just saying when I need info on certain subjects I think of who I have seen post some good knowledge/specs/quality info and use their login to try to find more threads on the subject matter. Limiting to one forum at a time and WOW! what a difference the search gives up manageable hits. :D
This site has grown so much over the past few years that if you don't use the search feature past typing in a key word and or limiting forum etc it is pretty much useless as you will get thousands of hits on common terms. :( Nothing will ever change that fact.
IMHO most of the trans questions that involve DIY attempt at rebuild or mod's would fit into the performance/engines forum. Maybe just change the name of that forum to "performance/engines and transaxles"?
The rest of the maintenance, swingaxle boot, bearing, nosecone and such or IRS questions surrounding stock applications seem to get answers just fine in the like model forums. |
