| I have found a 912 with a type 4 engine, sounds like a good deal, been reading about this, is a type 4 an easy engine to find parts for, or should I just replace it with a type 1 engine. the engine doesn't run now, I am told the carbs are gummed up, Is there anything special that I need to know about this before I buy the car, the rest of the 912 looks to be in good shape, I have restored one before, but with a stock engine. please, some one provide some input. mark |

If the conversion was done well, the type 4 engine is a very good fit. Make sure there is good sheet metal sealing around the engine. the gears will be a little low, the type 4 engine has more torque than either the 912 or 911 engine. either accept it or spend LOTS of money on higher ratio gears.
The type 4 engine is MUCH stronger than the type 1. sure, you can get a built up type 1 engine to make a lot of HP, but for how long?

| I have a 1966 912 with a type IV engine. It has dual 40 idf webers. I thinking of putting on a set of 44IDF. It's a great car to work on; easy and inexpensive. |
